Very good indeed, not quite perfect
We all worry about safety these days. No fears here. Very well organised with staff wearing masks & distancing sorted. Unlike other hotels they are maintaining a full daily room service. You could choose tables with traditional screens to separate tables in the dining room A nice mix of friendly young staff who hang on your every word & offer help without being asked. It does feel like a boutique hotel- I was very surprised when I realised it was as many as 40 rooms- it feels much more intimate than that Funky designer decorations all over the hotel are varied and the hotel is in a very good decorative state with good temperature control. Somehow they don't clash with the Georgian grandeur. A separate larder room with free fruit, snacks & drinks is nice though I suspect some guests might be a bit over enthusiastic in stocking up on crisps for their room I stayed in a junior suite with a magnificent view of Great Pulteney St & proper sash windows with working shutters. Splendid. The room was quite large & tall with a huge chandelier that if laid out in a straight line would have had enough lights for an international airport runway. No complaints. Spotless. One rather sweet/twee (you choose) is that every room seems to hide the kettle & coffee in a doll's house unit. A nice bed too Good fluffy towels & robes & nice separate toilet, shower &, that modern affliction, a bath in the middle of the room. I wasn't sure about the furniture though. There was ok hanging space but not much drawer space & as a result I lived out of my case on my 3 night stay. I would also have prefered a traditional arm/easy chair to a couple of bucket style chairs. There was space for a laptop- good enough for my daily Duolingo lesson anyway but I think a business user might have wanted a bit more space. So, you will gather, a nice bathroom & a nice bedroom. But no door between the two. I am quite sure Jane Austen would never have stood for that & I would agree with her. On night one I found the low hum of the automatic aircon system in the bathroom a bit annoying as it could not be shut out. The breakfast is good with excellent croissants & a good range of cooked breakfasts all served well. I planned to dine twice when I originally booked but only had dinner once as the lure of Bath tempted me away. I thought the dinner food absolutely excellent in terms of quality, taste & presentation and fair value. That said, I think the menu could add a couple of more adventurous dishes. I was less impressed by the music both with the volumes (though staff were happy to change if you asked) but especially the playlist. The restaurant is offering a smart, high ticket price dining experience but the soundtrack was more cheap burger bar Christmas party. I think some of the trendier young staff could find better selections for the largely hipster clientele Oh, the location of the hotel is fantastic. Very close to all the key sites- don't forget the Skyline & canal Walk or the Holborne museum & all can be accessed on the level as well. The downside is that parking might be an issue- the hotel has spaces for 6 or 7 cars (first come first served) but it's not cheap. There is a funky option whereby reception will pay for street parking across the hotels zone. We were very lucky & found a place quickly just round the corner but I would imagine that this will not always be possible. Bath is walkable & we chose not to take the car out- would have gone to Bristol by train (didn't go as it was in T 3) So overall, a well liked hotel offering the full Georgian Bath experience. Go for breakfast and dine-in at least once for dinner Finally for me the hotel offered fair value outside the Saturday night premium but the hotel was busy so I guess the market can stand it
Birthday getaway!
I booked this stay at the beginning of December for my husband's birthday- it was a surprise getaway to celebrate! Ian and Veronica were extremely helpful in getting us booked in and ensuring we had everything confirmed for the arrival date. Parking was easy to find and right outside the hotel, quite a few spaces so no issues getting parked. The location was on a beautiful wide road with the traditional bath buildings, not more than a 5-10 minute safe walk to the city centre. We stayed in the Coach House Deluxe Double and we could not fault it. The quality of the furnishings and linen were immaculate and the design of the room was well thought through. We even had a Dyson hair dryer and Nespresso coffee machine! We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel restaurant. The food was delicious! Service was excellent, quick and attentive. We enjoyed some lovely cocktails made by Ian at the hotel bar. The cocktails were professionally made and Ian kept us entertained, explaining the cocktails and general conversation. Covid-19 procedures were fully thought out and the hotel followed every government guideline to keep us all safe. It was highly sanitised and social distancing was in place. It was spot on, but we also felt at home and escaped from the outside worries of the pandemic. Overall, incredible stay and we cannot thank the staff enough for everything they did to make the stay safe and enjoyable. We definitely recommend staying at No. 15 Great Pulteney and can't wait to book another stay!
Birthday in Bath
My husband surprised me with a visit to bath at No.15 Great Pulteney for my birthday. We stayed in a grand junior suite room 18 - and the room was absolutely perfect. The hotel was stunning and the staff unbelievably helpful. The location couldn’t be any better. The decor is so unique and the free larder is such a lovely touch. I had a massage and facial treatment in the spa and that was a real treat. Breakfast was also delicious and cooked to order. Even in the pandemic you can see how much care the hotel has taken to make everything safe and secure. We can’t wait to return!
Anniversary stay
We booked a large deluxe double for our 10year anniversary. After lock down was eased we were really looking forward to our stay. We arrived at the hotel earlier then planned but our room ready so we were allowed to check in. We wouldn’t normally stretch to a “deluxe” anything so we were really looking forward to seeing our room. We were quite surprised to be taken downstairs to the basement level.... nicer rooms are generally high up, our room was also right next to the door to the restaurant.... we were slightly concerned about noise but we thought we would just see how it goes! This was our first child free break in a long time so wanted to be able to enjoy lay ins. A member of staff showed us our room and said we had a complimentary class of Prosecco for our anniversary.... not sure where it was or where we had to get it from but we never received it. The room was lovely, lots of space. Having a TV we could steam Netflix from our phones was a big plus... but we could not find the free sport advertised... which my husband was disappointed about. We booked afternoon tea for our first afternoon, we were told to go to the bar on the ground floor. We did, which had other groups in and a nice atmosphere... but we were then taken downstairs to the basement restaurant, where we were on own.... seemed like a strange thing to do! But we couldn’t fault the food or the drinks. It was lovely. We just couldn’t finish it all. The bed was really comfortable, however in the early hours of the first night I was woken by what sounded like someone walking laps around their room. I couldn’t quite figure it out at the time, so just tried to go back to sleep. But I kept hearing it. We had breakfast in the restaurant which was lovely, and the service was great. We spent the day walking around Bath, we returned to our room to hear, what can only be called a rave going on somewhere! The music was so loud!! We called reception to complain and the music was quickly turned down. I believe it was coming from there large suite! We enjoyed cocktails in the hotel bar on our last night, because of social distancing we struggled to get into any other bars but we really enjoyed the hotel bar, it had a nice atmosphere. Our second night I wasn’t woken by the foot steps above us, but when we woke up for breakfast I could here them. Walking back and fourth! Over and over again. On check out I asked what was above our room and I was informed it was the kitchen!!!! I wish I’d asked after the first night and asked to move rooms!!! Overall the hotel is lovely! We didn’t feel unsafe (Covid) there at all and staff were generally helpful. We were in room 30, which is a lovely room! I would’ve preferred a bath rather the just a shower, but the bathroom was really lovely overall. I think because we’d paid extra for a better room our expectations where very high, and they just weren’t met.... what with music noise, kitchen noise, no atmosphere for afternoon tea, no sign of the complimentary drinks, no free sports as advertised. It all just took the shine of it for us.
Perfect boutique hotel in the centre of Bath
If you've got the budget, this is the perfect boutique hotel close to the heart of Bath. From the moment you enter, you feel you are in an oasis of classy calm and comfort. The interior design and decoration are truly stylish, with imaginative touches and great finds everywhere - old photos, light fittings, perfume bottles, the list goes on. Service is excellent too, and dinner was delicious. We didn't take breakfast, which is pricey at £20 a head, but instead walked into town where there is a wide choice of excellent cafes - Rosarios, Wild Cafe, etc - that open around 08.30 - 09.00. No hesitation in thoroughly recommending as a great base for any visit. A final tip - by far the cheapest parking locally is at Morrisons supermarket, 10 minutes walk away - you can book it via one of those parkingspace websites
