NICE HOTEL STAFF FOR THIS SMALL TOWN HOTEL
This was maybe the only major chain hotel in Ako at this time. The staff went out of their way to accommodate me and my only drawback I found was the lack of amenities. Ako for me was a must so this was the only real choice I had; now the real big plus is that it is attached to this small train station creating a possible future anchor spot in town.
It doesn't matter if you arrive after a 24h trip, massive jet-lag and even if the hotel is empty with many free rooms.... They Will never let you check-in before 4pm. Staff speaks zeeeeeeerooooo 0 english or any other language. Very very very bad.
Great and Easy Hotel for Business or Leisure
I stayed at this Hotel during a Business Trip. I speak no japanese. The hotel was spotless and the staff was very nice. The front counter woman spoke some english but we got along just fine. The rooms are typical for Japanese Business, small and compact but they work when you are just using them to sleep. They serve a traditional breakfast in the morning which was great but after a while, you may want something else. They have a washer and dryer for cleaning clothes though it is very packed. They may want to add more laundry machines. The location is perfect, you do not have to leave the train station to get inside and Ako is cheaper than other cities, it is about a 30 minute local train ride to Himeji and Aioi and a 2.5 hour Shinkansen to Osaka or Kyoto. Very convenient.
A good night sleep
Stayed here for 4 nights on business. Rooms are simple but bed is good. Comes with free Wifi. Yukata and amenities for the bathroom needs to be taken from the lobby. Breakfast is only acceptable. One morning, the eggs were cold.
Brand new Toyoko Inn at the Banshuako JR station.
Stayed one night with my wife and found that this new Toyoko Inn is connected to the JR station via the second floor. My wife is a Japanese speaker so I do not know if any English is spoken. The staff is pleasant and courteous and one women took it upon herself to help correct a points problem from a previous Toyoko Inn stay. The room was spotless and had the typical Toyoko Inn layout. You will access the main street via the elevator to the first floor. The castle ruins are walk able and there is signage to direct you. The hotel recommended a restaurant named Mikaku which is just off the main street. They were unable to seat us due to big rush order so we walked back towards the main street and found a place named Magokoro ( True Heart ) I believe the name is correct. The place has about eight counter seats and the food was excellent. The chef does not speak English but my wife solved that issue. This place is a must for great food and a casual atmosphere. Ako is easy to reach either by the Ako line from Okayama or the Sanyo line from Aioi. Very nice area and we will definitely stay at the Banshu Ako Toyoko Inn the next time we are in the area.
