Great hotel, great setting and great staff

Our seven day stay couldn't have been better. The room was large and clean with a view over the lovely garden.
The staff were all excellent despite the shortage of staff being experienced throughout the hotel sector.
Breakfast and evening meals were also great with good portions and quality.
Will definitely stay at Tweedies again.
Dreadful Customer Service

My partner and I observed a most bizarre incident in the garden of this restaurant at lunchtime. A lady on a table of 4 accidentally dropped her glass of shandy. She apologized and asked for a replacement. The barman said it was not his fault and if you want another drink you will have to pay for it. The table asked to talk to a manager and we’re told that they just did and his decision stood. As they were leaving, the barman told them to enjoy their holiday in Benidorm. Not sure we’ve ever seen such poor and aggressive customer service.
Super comfortable stay

Just had another great two night stay. Comfortable clean rooms, Expertly tended and varied ale and wine selection, best in Cumbria and beyond. Dinner and breakfast couldn’t be faulted. Staff helpful, friendly and never stop working. Given the difficult situation we are still in with staff shortages and a lot of other venues reducing services this was a terrific demonstration of determination to provide a quality product. We will be back again whenever we can.

Nice but disappointing stayed here 3 nights room 14 small and basic but clean told on arrival no housekeeping come and ask for towels etc prices should reflect this and people should be told beforehand ,tried to book meal told abruptly we should have read e mail which advised booking in advance ok we missed this but no need for rudeness ,they did get us in on a no show table later however .power point was broke in room and vanity light broken in bathroom shower seal had gone and flooded the floor ,hot water went off for full day so no shower morning and off again on the evening not good after doing a long walk in the heat no apologies I know things like this are out of their control however no apology at checkout I think at the very least they could of offered all the affected guests a complementary drink
The staff were very stretched and we were constantly reminded of this
Poor service overall
That was an experience!

Stayed there for 5 days (4 nights). Nice large room, comfortable bed however it was so hot, there was no fridge or fan in the room. No way to keep our water cold. We were in a room situated next to the entrance of the bar, one member of staff decided to sort the cutlery out outside our window for at least 2 hours at the end of their shift, very irritating! We never saw a member of staff in the hotel itself so if you had any enquiries well forget it, no information either about local places, walks…literally no one to help you. Glad we’ve done our homework before coming.
We understand that because of Covid, there was a lack of staff but there was a constant reminder of this every single day! We found the staff quite unprofessional, looked very scruffy, no work uniform, some were miserable, very unfriendly, quite rude and very stressed!! It was actually painful to watch so we spent most of our time out of the hotel. We ate once at the restaurant we had to pre book, food was ok, nothing special and quite expensive. No priority for the residents of the hotel. One evening, we couldn’t find anywhere to eat, Tweedies staff told us they were fully booked, which was fair enough and we were sharply told there won’t be any service outside that night with no explanation of why so we decided to try our luck with another restaurant in the village, they fell sorry for us but even if we weren’t residents at their hotel and we didn’t book a table, they found us a table, they were very accommodating, polite, cheerful, so professional. We wished we were staying with them instead. When we came back to Tweedies, we noticed that they were actually serving outside. When asked about it, we were told that they found someone later to help to be able to do so! They could have told us earlier that there might have been a chance for us to eat there. They’ve actually done us a favour, we had a wonderful meal elsewhere!
We also had to pre order our breakfast the previous night, the food was okay, the morning staff was rushing like crazy, we felt very sorry for her, alone serving a dozen tables with no extra help but she was always smiling and polite.
Would we ever stay there again? No! Shame because the hotel itself is actually very nice and clean but so let down by the staff except the housekeepers who were very friendly!
