Simple, efficient motel with a central location

Reviewed 20 march, 2020

We were only spending our first night in Amherst, before visiting friends for a couple of weeks. The lodge was clean and satisfactory. I like simple places like this. It is nice to not be in a large chain motel. I like the wooded location.

I’m giving this hotel 5 stars not because it’s the most beautiful or amazing hotel in Amherst, but because it’s affordable, clean, no annoying noises. But mainly because it’s the best dog friendly motel in the area

4 stars for price/spot (tip for late check-ins)

Folks...for the money and location, it’s fine. It’s a clean room, bathroom, beds, linens, and relatively quiet. You can walk to town in 5 minutes or to Umass in 10 min. Rooms have a fridge, coffee maker, microwave. Endless heat in the frigid winter and AC in the summer. Yeah, do I wish for more? Sure, but that’s $100/night plus tax at best and you have to pay to park your car anywhere near town or the university. Seriously, mold in the shower? Come on, it’s not like it’s’s just old. I bet we all have some mold at home. Do I think the owners are cheapskates? Yeah. The place could use some love. We did wish the hot water was a little hotter - and the internet a little faster, as we had to work. If you plan to check in after 5 pm, call them. They have a procedure for getting you a key once the office is closed.

Agree with "Yuck" and "Avoid" and would add Gross

There was mold on the bathroom walls and floor. The toilet didn't flush. The lights had mismatched bulbs and so they buzzed all night. We got bug bites. One of our group had an asthma attack probably due to the dusty old carpet. There is no staff there overnight and no info on who to call. The description on the web site is completely misleading and they prey on parents of college students and its proximity. We felt totally scammed.

The inexpensive rates ought to tip you off that there’s a catch to staying here. It is an extremely shabby motel- not in need of an update but a whole scale renovation. When I walked into the room, my heart sank. I thought, bed bugs for sure: ancient carpet, poor lighting and banged up walls. I was wrong about the bed bugs - the room was scrupulously clean but the peeling paint on the trim, harsh fluorescent sconce lighting, bathroom door that threatened to fall apart ever time used created an extremely depressing environment. The kicker is the rooms above the ground floor rooms: you hear every footfall. My neighbor persisted in banging on the floor mysteriously for hours. I called the front desk to get him to stop and he then paid me a visit. Standing outside my door he shouted insults. I went out to confront him and he feigned surprised , explaining he was there for ice. This motel has the ambiance of a crackhouse. Simply avoid.
