Lovely hotel, shame about the breakfast

This is a lovely, comfortable hotel in an attractive setting. Service was excellent from reception onwards and the hotel was very well kept and clean. The pool area is lovely, as are the hotel grounds. I used the spa - facial and massage both very good, although expensive. We ate at the Rickshaw restaurant and the service and food were both very good. Room service was also good. The one thing that let the hotel down was the lousy breakfast service. For the first day it was a la carte and very good if a tad slow. Subsequently it was an inadequate buffet, served by one member of staff. Cold eggs, various items running out and a hit and miss tea and coffee service. It was as though they had a focus group to devise the worst possible of all possible system!ms! I’d expect much better from a five star hotel.
A truly outstanding exceptionally well managed hotel

We recently stayed for 7 nights in late October and had a wonderful experience. This is undoubtedly one of the best hotels in which we have stayed. The location is quiet and refined next to the presidential Palace and gardens with easy access to local restaurants. The facilities are outstanding and the staff are without doubt the best we have encountered in any hotel - always helpful and friendly. The Executive Lounge is a delightful experience for afternoon tea and sunset drinks. It is the ideal place for couples who value a relaxing and luxurious experience. The Spa is exceptional and we had wonderful treatments from Candice Caren and Alex. Special mention also for Kevin and Martin who were always on hand to give helpful advice and Kushal who was a delight in both the Executive Lounge and restaurant. Bolt and the local excellent bus service is a great way to get around. Looking to returning at the earliest opportunity. Particularly impressive was the level of Covid precautions throughout the hotel and indeed across Malta which puts the UK to shame. It always felt a safe place.

My wife and I visited the hotel with our 18 month old daughter in early October, and were truly blown away by the warm welcomes, the stunning location and the beauty of the hotel itself. The staff could not have done more to make us feel at home, and the natural warmth of the Maltese people shone through et every turn. The outdoor pool is lovely, the spa was enjoyed several times by my wife for a massage, and the indoor pool was lots of fun during 'Children's hours' every morning. Breakfast is impressive in the lovely, peaceful hall, and the food was varied and delicious, with high chairs for our little one. The suites and terraces are magnificent, and we spent a night or two enjoying room service on the huge king size bed. Moments across the road are the sun soaked San Anton Gardens, with room to roam, stunning flora, and an array of animals running wild, perfect for little ones to learn and explore. We saw peacocks, terrapins, swans, ducks, chicks, almost too much excitement for our toddler, who loved it! Just beyond that is a playground with more open space and a casual restaurant, perfect for families. One of the most well run hotels that we have seen, and one that we would highly recommend, and hope to revisit soon!
Good in parts

Positives large room with good amenities although a little dated, kept immaculately clean by friendly staff, Breakfast service started fairly good for first 2 days when we were offered an a la carte menu to order from, fruit and pastries/rolls delivered to our table and a hot buffet, this was then replaced by a buffet and although food satisfactory the service at the tables for coffee, fresh orange juice became non existent and Crookery, cutlery just left to pile up on the tables. Tried asking at reception re buses to Valetta informed there were road works by the hotel and did not know where bus stop was. Courtesy bus to Valetta, only one daily leaving at 9am and returning at 4pm and limited places. Lovely pool area with plenty of loungers and towels provided but visiting one afternoon found used towels scattered all over the sun loungers making the area look very untidy. The menu from the summer kitchen pool side was also replaced part way through the week with a very reduced menu. On our last evening decided to eat at hotel as had pick up at 20.30hrs, arrived in restaurant at 7pm, placed order which had not been served by nearly 8pm when we asked what was happening, eventually served but sorry to say my meal of pork chap was inedible, meat tough, dry and tasteless, husbands chicken ok but to be fair not quite what we were expecting. From reading previous reviews we had high expectations for our stay but did not find that these were met.

Our first visit to this hotel and from the moment we arrived everyone was polite always greeted us and ask if we needed any help. Martin the concierge was a lovely guy and he gave us the sole use of a wheelchair which turned out to be a god send. The reception staff where also very helpful and polite they would open the main doors for us if they saw us going out. Breakfast was a bit of a car crash some days not enough staff and some didn’t seem to know what to do. The food however was good and it’s the first place I’ve had a decent cup of tea nice and hot and strong. The pool area was sizeable plenty of loungers and again the staff were very helpful. The rooms were kept very clean and again the staff were very friendly. All in all a very good time was had thank you everyone.
