Beautiful nature hotel, but in need of lots of improvement !

I booked a panoramic view to enjoy peace and quiet in the last day of my vacation coming form Secrets, next door. The balcony was very small, facing the pool where tecno music was loud and it seems it was going a long time still... Safety box not working and toilette with a leak. I asked the reception to fix the issues and after 30min wait I decided to upgrade to their best room because I wanna keep my vacation in high standards, so, I paid 100US more and went to do sailing. Great and friendly guy (it was his last day there) gave us a nice area overview in the sea. Back in the room I asked for the changing room and hep with my big luggage, since I injured my foot few days before. The guy came with no cart and we had to walk a lot to the 3rd floor. WE liked the room and told we were staying there. The guy wouldn't leave the room until I pay for the upgrade, even though I told the reception and him that I need 30min to prepare for my snorkeling and I would stop at the reception to make the payment. No, No,No...So, I left in a hurry with my snorkel gear, credit card to make the payment. At the reception I had to wait for the receptionist who was attending a big group that had just arrived. Time is precious if you have just one day to enjoy the place. This was a nightmare... specially because I had a wound on my foot. So rude and unprofessional customer service !! At night we went to Portofino. The food was terrible for both of us, but the waiters so nice and polite. It was not their fault...
The room at the tower was beautiful, but the jacuzzi not working, the water didnt drain. It is ok, nobody needs a jacuzzi with the marvelous sea waters in front of the hotel. Just if end up paying 340US for a room, I expect to be good !! Also, at night I wanted to dry my hair and the hair dryer was missing. After 2 phone calls the object was delivered after 1h waiting. Next day, delicious breakfast in the big salon, despite the smell of dirty frying oil. The fruits, coffee and eggs were good enough for us. So, make your conclusions if you decide to stay there. Premises were beautiful with nature around. I am a biologist and love that. Perhaps they should paint the place and modernize a bit, without much investment and make the place a natural retreat for vegans and yogis. It is just a thought !!

Perfect all-inclusive resort experience
Reviewed 6 September, 2021
Our friends told us about the Grand Palladium Vallarta. What initially attracted us was the promise of an all-inclusive resort right on the beach in the Puerto Vallarta area with waves a shirt walk from our room. I wanted to surf and she wanted to relax and sun bath. A win-win!
Upon checking in to the resort we were made aware of the Family Selection side of the hotel and decided to upgrade. We are so glad we did! 24/7 room service, a premium restaurant, and exclusive pool were awesome—our experience would not have been the same without it—but hands down the best part was having our very own butler. A simple WhatsApp message and ice cream appeared at the pool as I was laying out. Another message and two robes were delivered to our door. Another message and our dinner reservations were made. It was a new layer of luxury to have a butler assisting us in every step of our vacation.
We highly recommend Grand Palladium Vallarta and especially the Family Selection upgrade!
Amazing resort with great views!

My husband and I, plus a few friends, spent 9 days at this resort in August, and it was the most wonderful, relaxing time. It was our first time to Puerto Vallarta, or on the West Coast of Mexico, and I was amazed by the views. Mountains and beaches with real waves all in one! It was seriously stunning.
Rooms: The rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable. We booked an Oceanview room and it had the best views! Sitting on the balcony was wonderful; just don’t close the door all the way because there is no handle on the outside. The beds were mostly comfortable; I slept well every night. Though I do wish there had been more pillows (I like at least two each and there was only one large pillow). The number on the thermostat seemed to be irrelevant because it seemed to be the same temperature every night, but it was cold, so I’m not mad about it. Housekeeping came every day, regardless of how late we left the room, and they always made it look great. If you leave the “Do not disturb” sign on the door all day, they would wait until they saw you and would ask if you wanted the room cleaned; they’re very thorough. There was mini bar filled with water bottles, sodas, and beers, plus snacks, all of which were refilled daily (assuming you were out of the room at the times they came by). If you missed them though, you could usually catch the guy in the hallway and ask for more.
Food & Drinks: The buffets had a pretty good variety so there was usually something for everyone. Some things were better than others, but the beauty of all-inclusive is if you don’t like one thing, you can just go get another plate lol. There were omelette and taco stations at the appropriate times and they were always the best! There was usually a line though, but that’s how you know it’s good. The Asian- and Mexican-inspired specialty restaurants were both delicious as well, but I would skip the Italian one, especially if you’re a fan of good Italian food. You can make reservations every morning for any of the specialty restaurants. Service in all restaurants was excellent.
We frequented the Hemingway Bar and really loved the quiet ambiance of this one. They had some specialty drinks that were really good too (the espresso martini definitely gave me some much-needed energy). The lobby bar was nice as well, open air with views of the theater when shows were going on. The sports bar had some nice junk food, which was definitely great for a late night snack. They had pool tables and other activities too. I think the main disco upstairs was closed, but they did have a party in the covered lobby area every night after the show. One night, there was even a full band and that was unexpected and awesome! They were very talented; felt like being at a football game or in New Orleans or something.
Pools & Other Activities: There were two pools here (plus another in the Family Selection but that’s a whole separate thing we couldn’t go to so whatevs): one main family pool with a swim-up bar and also a kid’s splash section (the water slides looked really fun lol) and an adults-only pool. Usually, we would’ve frequented the swim-up bar because who wants to get out of the pool to get a drink?! But it was a bit loud for our tastes, as there were always a variety of activities going on and music being played. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed this setting before and had a blast. They’re great at keeping people entertained. But we avoided this because that was not the vibe for us this trip. So we spent all of our time at the adults-only pool. It’s an infinity pool overlooking the ocean with mountains in the distance and we could just not get enough of that view. The vibe there was just chill, and that’s exactly what we wanted. They played music, not too loud, but always a good playlist! And when they say adults only, they mean it. Anytime a child tried swimming in it, them or their parents were told to leave within 5 minutes. The experience at this pool was made better by our favorite bartender, Armando. He kept our drinks filled the whole time and we rarely had to even get out of the pool to do so. Shortly after arriving each day, he’d meet us with a drink without us even having to ask. He was so friendly and even gave me and my friend little “Viva Mexico” sombreros to take home. Just the sweetest! His righthand men were Antonio and Gerardo, and they were also delightful.
There is also a saltwater “pool” down on the beach, which was so nice! The beach felt amazing, but if you don’t want to get toppled by waves every 5 seconds, the saltwater pool is the place to be (though during high tide, you’re just one with the ocean lol). There are some rocky spots, but the majority is sand or smoother rocks, so just tread slowly when venturing out the first time.
We didn’t do any excursions this trip, just because we wanted to relax and do nothing, but there were desks there where you could book them easily. There were plenty of great-looking options too. We will definitely take advantage of a few on our next trip there (because there will be a next trip). You could also book them at the airport (it’s just so hectic though) or online ahead of time if you wanted.
We did do a spa day though, and that was so amazing. We did an hour-long massage (Caroline was a great masseuse), and then spent time in the spa pool area, which also has a jacuzzi. The spa pool was gorgeous, and had waterfalls and features that were felt great on your shoulders. There was also a sauna/steam room, but I’m not about that life, so I don’t know how it was. Everything was clean and the staff were so lovely.
Covid: This resort seemed to be doing everything in their power to protect guests from covid. They encouraged mask wearing when not drinking, eating, or in the pool, and gave disposable gloves out to everyone before walking into the buffet so you don’t have to touch anything with your hands. They were also doing temperature checks frequently. Hand sanitizer stations were everywhere. We did have to get a negative covid test to come back to the US, but that process was pretty easy and didn’t take too much time. Just be sure to bring your passport with you when you go to make the appointment for the test (has to be done 72 hours ahead of your flight home).
Overall, this was an absolutely amazing trip and an amazing resort. It was beautiful and lush, with the best views. It was just what we needed after this past year+ of craziness. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. I can’t recommend it enough!
Great service, beautiful property
Reviewed 2 September, 2021
We have travelled to Palladium properties many times over the years (this was our 18th Palladium visit), but this was our first time to the Puerto Vallarta Resort.
To start, this property is beautiful. The pictures do not do it justice. It is smaller than the other Palladium properties we have visited (Cancun, Punta Cana, Jamaica). It is important to know, the property is in the cliffs north of PV. Lots and lots of stairs and uphill walks. There are great views of the bay to be had in many locations. The beach is small, but very nice - lots of surfers can be seen as well. The "saltwater pool" space in the Ocean is really cool - make sure you go check it out.
The service here was great. We quickly settled in as regulars at the Adult Pool bar and enjoyed great, personal service every day (Thanks Armando, Gerardo, and Antonio). The Nest restaurant team took great care of us for many breakfasts, lunches and dinners (Jose R and Ignacio in particular, but every person there was wonderful to us). Finally, as Travel Club members, our 2 concierges (Erik and Ramiro) were the best, most helpful TC concierges we have every had - these guys took care of us every day and made sure our stay was awesome.
The resort was extremely busy while we were there, very full of families. This did make the main pool area very busy, the buffet lines long and the shows packed each evening. Because of this, we spent most of our time in other areas.
The Nest area is very nice, not nearly as crowded and a nice step up from the main resort. While we did not have kids with us this visit, this looked like it would be a super place to take younger kids.
The a la carte restaurants are limited in quantity. The Mexican (Adelita) food was good and service very attentive. There is a beautiful patio outside overlooking the ocean. The Italian (Portofino) food was also good. The Asian (Bamboo) food was very good, but it was very warm in the restaurant with no AC. Neat ambiance, but we were uncomfortable. The Nest is the best of the restaurants, with a lovely outdoor space, good food and great service. Had lobster here!
The Spa was beautiful, but very small. While we were there was limited to just 1-2 couples at a time. The massages were relaxing as always.
The Travel Club lounge very nice, but is a bit out of the way and was empty while we were there, so we did not spend a lot of time there. This is usually a favorite for us at the other locations.
The mechanics of check-in & check-out were quick and without issues. We did receive COVID tests to return home which were quick and easy with results coming back a few hours later. Transportation back and forth from the airport is part of our Club membership and was prompt and friendly.
Overall, we enjoyed our week here and would recommend it to others.
