More about the hotel
Very Basic
We stayed there for 4 nights on a family vacation. They are old apartments converted to a hotel. Very bare minimum facility. Checks off the boxes as far as beds, breakfast, proximity to city center, etc. But be warned that it lacks even basic comfort. 1. No A/C or heat!!! A family of 4 in a room with no air circulation can be stuffy. 2. The bathroom shower had no knob and no one changed it even though we complained. (See picture). We had to use all our might to pull the little screw to make the shower work. 3. No Shampoo. They told us to use the body gel instead so we had to go out and buy shampoo. 4. Breakfast was sub par and was being made in not so hygienic conditions. 5. Even though it says the hotel is close to city center, note that walking to Plaza Catalunya or La Ramblas is a good 30 minutes. Plus: The hotel staff were courteous and did help with taxi booking, local phone call etc.
Good Hotel Not Great
This hotel is in a great location. You can easily get there from the airport by taking the AEROBUS from the airport and getting off at the FIRST stop. The hotel is 3 min walk from there. The hotel is also very close to a big metro station, which will help you get around. I thought the actual hotel was fine. The rooms were a bit small, and we were four. The beds were a bit small, but fine. The shower was amazing. Best shower maybe ever. The gym is pretty much non-existent, so don't expect much there. The breakfast is not worth it, so don't bother. Go out and get some better cheaper breakfast, or buy some stuff from the grocery store about 50 feet from the hotel. Lots of other restaurants around as well. I would say pricing wise, it is pretty good for the price. You won't get much better for the price unless you do airbnb, and in Barcelona Airbnb's cancel all the time. I would avoid that if possible, we had it happen to us later in the trip. Anxiety in that is not worth it. The staff at Hotel Azul are very good, and speak English. No complaints on that. A good solid hotel but not great!
Worst Hotel I've ever visited
We booked a room for the whole family, which was 4 people. They didn't even have enough beds so my brother had to sleep on the couch! The lobby was so very stinky and the elevators smelled the same way, I would almost say it smelled like a rotten banana and a skunk in there for 1 year. My friend and I had to literally hold our noses and breathe in our clothes since it smelled soo bad! The lobby was more long than actually wide so it would be hard to 2 wheelchairs to fit in and the elevators were extremely small. I would suggest almost any hotel but this one. Good Luck surviving the smell if you go to this hotel.
It was good
The location is excellent and the rooms are pretty standard. We had issues with the TV but I just jiggled the cable and it was good enough for our one night stay. The staff are helpful and friendly but not that warm. It was just average but comfortable. I'd definitely stay here again for the convenience for a quick night or two.
Very good location and value
Great location, plenty of good restaurants and cafees around the hotel. Clean rooms and pleasant staff. This is my favourite hotel in Barcelona for the combination of price/location parameter. Plaza Espanya is app. 200 meters down the road, so this is as central as central can be.
