This was a last minute booking, due to our friends house been cut off in the violent storm a few days before. The B&B has a homely feel, Carole was warm and friendly the bedroom was decorated to a very high standard, our bathroom was enormous and spotless, breakfast was piping hot on both mornings and nothing was too much for our host. Great position to use as a base for Bernard Castle Shopping area and the castle!
Wonderful stay at Newgate House

We have just returned from a lovely overnight stay at Newgate House. Carole gave us a warm welcome upon our arrival and showed us to our spacious and very nice room. Our private bathroom was also a delight...where we soon made use of the fab large roll top bath and bubble bath...! Carole helped us with booking a taxi to The Raby Hunt restaurant for a birthday celebration meal that evening, and even provided cufflinks for my dress shirt that I had forgot to pack, saving the day! The following morning the cooked breakfast was both delicious and plentiful, served in a pleasant dining room at a large round table which resulted in my wife and I having a pleasant conversation over breakfast with another couple staying over. In summation, we would highly recommend staying at Newgate House and look forward to returning in the future... Mark & Helen Taylor.
ANOTHER WONDERFUL VISIT TO NEWGATE HOUSE

Saturday 28 August 2021, We arrived at ‘Newgate House’ a wonderful Georgian town house around 6.00pm. We were greeted by Carol the owner and were given a very warm welcome. We were given the principal room of the house, which overlooked the street. A large charming double room that was full of late afternoon sunshine. The furnishings were walnut and white wood, with a white wood dressing table and chair. The bedroom was quite spacious and the decor was done out in a light creamy white walls. We had a double bed with a white cotton sheets and duvet and soft duck egg blue curtains. There was a drinks tray with tea, coffee and complimentary biscuits, which was in keeping with the ‘attention to detail’ of the guest house. We had separate bathroom next door, which a lovely deep Georgian roll top bath and a fully tiled walk in shower, that had a lovely power shower and had piping hot water, and lovely soft hot fluffy towels, it was done out in white with silver modern bathroom fittings. My husband and I unpacked and settled in. We then we ran ourselves a lovely hot bubbly bath and we had both had a nice long soak and then we got dressed and went out to dinner. After dinner we took a slow walk back to ‘Newgate House’, and then we crept sleepily into our bed where we snuggled up, like two kittens in a cat basket and had a relaxing and refreshing night’s sleep. Sunday 29th August 2021, My husband and I awoke to a bright sunny morning, which continued for the rest of the day. After a full English breakfast for my husband, and yoghurt and fruit and a mushroom omelette for me. We packed our casein the car, settled our bill and said our ‘Farewells’ to Carol of ‘Newgate House’. This is a wonderful place to stay if you are in the area.
Lovely place to stay.

When we arrived we were greeted by Carole, who is an excellent host and makes you feel very welcome. Our room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The full english breakfast was very good. Newgate House is ideally situated and is only a 3-5 minute walk into the town centre.Next time we are in Barnard Castle we would definitely stay there again.

We stayed in Carole’s lovely house for only one night and would have enjoyed a longer stay if we could have. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated with a neat en suite. Very comfortable bed. Everywhere was very clean and Covid precautions taken seriously. The breakfast was certainly a highlight and taken in a lovely dining room. Carole is a friendly and charming host. The location is near to the town centre one way and Bowes museum the other way. All easily walkable. We had no problem parking directly outside the property. Highly recommended.
