Great stay
Hard to fault. The Maison is an old stone building, beautifully restored by the current owners. This includes thoughtful plantings of a wide range of interesting shrubs, grasses and trees in the grounds. Every contact with the owners demonstrated the same attention to detail to guests’ experiences of the property. Dinner prepared by the in-house chef was excellent. All the basics are right - secure off-street parking, solid Wi-Fi, spacious rooms etc. - so it’s not hard to see why they have picked up some prestigious awards.
Paradise
The perfect place to get away from it all. The hotel is in a stunning setting - the buildings and gardens are so beautiful, and the nearby countryside and towns are absolutely incredible. I'd highly recommend.
Honeymoon from U.S.
Loved a lot about this hotel and it was such a special place to spend 4 days of our honeymoon in France. Lots of leisurely walks along the countryside paths were so simple but incredible. The pool, service, and rooms were fantastic. Coffee in the morning at breakfast was blah (this is coming from an American used to American coffee!) and wish there was espresso. The hotel was nearby to the town of Uzes, which had a great vibe with lots of opportunities for wandering the lovely streets. Our housekeeper was so kind!
Beautiful but lacking in areas
We loved La Maison d'Ulysse and I really wish we could give it a 5 star rating. So much about this place is special - the lush gardens with beautiful planting, the gorgeous sea green pool, the contemporary garden furniture and interiors, the delicious dinner. However I have to be honest - the bed was really hard and I didn't sleep well. There wasn't a proper shower, just a bath with a shower hose. Its nice to have a refreshing shower after a long day exploring or sunbathing. We thought it would have been reasonable to leave us drinking water in the room - instead it was available at 5 Euros in the honesty bar. We stayed 3 nights and were not informed when we arrived that the restaurant was closing on our 2nd and 3rd nights. We booked a suite with a private terrace which ended up being a sofa outside our front door. Breakfast was a very basic buffet and some of the dishes were covered with little flies. I hate to give negative feedback but it just lacked the special touches that make a place unique. I think we must have stayed at a time when the owners weren't there as having read some of the other Trip Advisor reviews, it seems that the owners play a big part in many guests' experiences of the hotel. We hardly ever saw anyone who worked there. There was a lady there when we arrived who showed us to our room. She prepared breakfast in the mornings but apart from that the place seemed unstaffed. When we wanted to check out late we couldn't find anyone. Its very very laid back - felt like staying in someone's house who wasn't there! We did love it and I do hope we'll go back there, but we'll choose our room more carefully next time.
French Countryside!!!
Quiet, peaceful, relaxing!!! Put this high on your list of places to stay! My wife and I found this through Amex Platinum travel. After staying in Lyon, Annecy, Paris and Venice this turned out to be our favorite....can’t wait to return!
