We booked Michaelson House for a short notice weekend break to the Lake District and it proved to be a great success. I've read a number of the other reviews for this hotel that aren't that positive and while I'll not dispute that the décor is a bit tired and it doesn't feel very modern I can only say that it ticked a lot of boxes in respect of what we required! Cost - it was not expensive particularly when you compare it to other Hotels more central to the Lake District. Location - it is a short drive to the tourist venues within the Lake District and is ideally placed for the nearby Safari Park which we were visiting. Add to that it is in a quiet residential area so no traffic noise and was very peaceful during our stay there. Family Room - the family room we had booked provided a good sized room with a double bed and two proper single beds, definitely much more practical and comfortable for the kids than the double sofa beds you often find provided in a "family room", add to that a good sized bathroom with bath and separate shower and you couldn't ask for much more. Facilities - the Wi-Fi was perfectly adequate to keep two teenagers happy! there is off street parking, the garden was lovely and the bar great for a nightcap. Food - we had opted to head out and explore the area so didn't eat main meals at the hotel however the full English Breakfast was great and set us up nicely for the day. Add in that Peter the owner was a great host and able to comment knowledgeably on local tourist attractions and recommend places to eat and we had a very good value stay here. If you are looking for an anti-septic, standardised corporate box of a hotel room then this may not be the place for you but if you want good value and something a little different then I'd certainly suggest you consider this place.
Quiet, convenient small family hotel

Michaelson House Hotel is a small family run hotel, not one of those faceless budget franchises. A friendly no frills service you expect from a small hotel with a good breakfast options and main meal service. The breakfast including cereal, full English with fruit juice and coffee certainly set me up for the day. I was also delighted with an excellent traditional evening meal. The staff were welcoming and helpful throughout. The hotel is located in a residential area and was quiet with no disturbances during the night. The Hotel also has off street parking.

Lovely hotel with great staff, highly recommend. The room was more than adequate, the food did not disappoint. For anyone in the area on business or pleasure i found this to have much more character than any premier inn
Lovely stay in great location

We enjoyed a lovely stay at the Michelson House hotel. The welcome was warm and friendly with the staff always polite and helpful. Our room was clean and pleasant and the breakfast excellent. This hotel makes a great change from the standard ‘corporate’ style chain hotels and felt more like home! The location of the hotel, on the eastern edge of the lakes but also on the coast, made it a great base for exploring the area. If you are looking for something a bit different with free parking and free WiFi in a good location this is the place!
A very pleasant stay

We had a very pleasant stay at this hotel; where we met some friends, who we hadn't seen for a while. The Manager was very welcoming and made us feel at home. Lovely cooked food and nicely presented. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The hotel is in a quite street, so no noise from traffic. Easy access to the Lakes, so you could make this hotel a base and not pay extortionate prices in Windermere or Ambleside.
