Holiday visit for Christmas

Booked to stay here while visiting my family and started off very nice. Sat outside eating and drinking, staff couldn’t do enough! Then the bill…. 2 adults 3 children for 2.5-3hrs bill of £250!!! When asked for the receipt once paid ( as we thought there must of been a mistake) the owner stated they couldn’t get a receipt as it’s been paid for!? We had ended up in the garden to say bye to each other ( while my nephew aged 4 was running around) the owner then came out shouting “we are out of order and need to stop the children from being to loud!!” The tone and aggression that come from this man was appalling and embarrassing! Not just for me BUT my family who I had not seen because of lock down and living in Guernsey!!! Will not recommend this place! Definitely worth avoiding this place unless you want to be shouted at and ripped off!
Last Minute Change - Fantastic Service
Reviewed 1 december, 2021
We were due to stay at the Rose and Crown one Saturday evening in November. However at the last minute on the morning of arrival a positive lateral flow test prevented us travelling. As this was past the cancellation date I wasn't expecting any kind of refund. However The Rose and Crown were very understanding under the extreme circumstances. They put the room back up for sale, sold it that day, and refunded me the amount minus admin fees. This was over and above service which I am very grateful for. Hopefully I'll get to stay there in the future!
Draconian Cancellation Policy
Reviewed 13 november, 2021
I booked a room here for last night which I only booked on Thursday and within an hour of the booking, my daughter had a positive covid test so we had to cancel our plans. I immediately contacted the hotel to advise that I need to cancel and was directed back to booking.com where I had made the booking. They advised that it was non refundable already. I advised that we could not stay no matter what but would be very happy to move the booking to another date as travel to this area at least once a month. I gave two dates but the hotel flatly refused to amend the booking and charged the full amount of the stay. It appears there booking conditions are full payment within 14 days of the date of stay which is quite frankly ridiculous, particularly in this day and age. I also cannot see why there was a problem in moving the date (even if there was an additional charge to change). NOT customer friendly at all. Obviously not hard to believe that I will never approach them again, so be warned if you book this property during these times when things can change in an instant due to Covid.
Friendly and very clean.

We have stayed several times now and the standard is always good. Nigel, Shaun and staff are always keen to please, very friendly but professional too. Cleanliness stands out, with careful Covid measures. Beds are very comfortable. Always a pleasure to return. We will stay again!
A place to be avoided

We eat out a lot. We popped in for lunch. Pensioners special should have been dubbed. On a diet our very small portion sizes will not disappoint. £13 each for fish and chip and the same price for a lasagne. Grossly overpriced. Food OK. Beer was good until I saw the price £4.55 for a pint
