Lovely Setting but needs some work
I am a fairly thorough reviewer so here goes...COVID measures in place with all employees masked...in fact the hotel was so devoid of anything resembling a home that it felt desserted at times. Absolutely lovely location for this historic hotel in a setting resembling paradise! Gorgeous grounds and a grand entrance make a great first impression. Valet area was extremely crowded but we managed to get our bags unloaded in a timely manner. Check-in was amusing...we had accidentally arrived a day early! (Anxious to get out of town!) However the young lady checking us in declared it an "EMERGENCY" and anxiously called for help on her radio! The next gal who came in handled it very smoothly and they were able to accommodate our traveling date snafu. We began the upward descent to our room which was a pretty good distance. Thank goodness for a baggage cart. Directions were poor. We finally arrived at our destination. A nice room with the option to go out on the vast balconies draped on the front of the hotel. Gorgeous views! Comfy rockers! The bed was comfortable, the bathroom spacious and the counter space adequate. The room included 1 robe (even though there were 2 of us) and an in-room safe, refrigerator and coffee maker. Our first night was a bite at the Tavern - great experience and wonderful outdoor seating with a firepit for those chilly nights on the horizon. Breakfast was room service. We placed out request for room service, only for our call to be returned 20 minutes later...food ordered, another 45 minutes to its arrival. Food was tasty but that was way too much hassle for a simple room service meal. We enjoyed the outdoor pool (Reservation required) and the indoor pool. We thought it interesting that there were 5 people working at the pool when certainly 1 could have been more efficiently utilized with the sweeping of all the porches which were covered in bugs! Pool and hot tub were lovely. Dinner Friday evening was in the Crystal Dining Room. Just the name would make one have great expectations for the upcoming experience! Not so...we did have an outstanding waitress (Victoria). The house drink special was superb. After that, minimal to even write about - shrimp cocktail was warm and slimy, barely a smear of cocktail sauce, the salmon was simply placed on a plate with no garnish...salads were warm and unappealing. We would never recommend this place to eat. The next day we went into Bedford - the charming little town just 2 miles from the hotel and certainly worth the trip if you like exploring the little shops and local wares! We grabbed lunch at LIFeSTYLE and highly recommend it! Dinner that evening was back at the Tavern and finished by the firepit. We had a fabulous meal and met some wonderful folks around the firepit! We grabbed lunch the next day at Tillie's, the tavern in the pro shop by the golf course. Food was pretty good but lacked presentation. My spa experience was also ok...butI would have liked to have been told that my facial would be performed through a lucite box placed over my head. There was not the obvious hands on experience here that I was expecting, even though the technician was wonderful. Breakfast on the morning of check-out was tasty, but should be after waiting 30 minutes for it's arrival to our table. Daily room service was challenging. Our room was never properly re-stocked after the first night and we had to ask for coffee cups and coffee every day. I've attached some photos of the way we found the room on Sunday (9/12) after our room had been "cleaned". Conclusion - we travel extensively and prefer to stay at upscale locations (Greenbriar, Nemacolin, Homestead, Ritz Carlton, etc.). We completely understand that hotels are facing one of their biggest challenges to the industry currently with COVID. We are both medical people so we get it. However, this lovely, enchanting hotel, steeped with history and placed in beautiful setting, deserves better. It starts at the top with an outstanding customer service oriented program manager and general manager. All the staff could use more polish, more professional appearances, uniforms that proclaim the on-going presentation of this lovely hotel! It felt like everyone was tired and frustrated, as if life was at an almost standstill. We planned our getaway to get a reprieve from that being in the medical industry and ended up right back in the midst of it. That being said, we truly felt the beauty of the area and loved reading all the photo tags in the hallways. We would love to come back and give this location another try once COVID is over and life is back to normal. I think perhaps the heart is still there...it's still trying to recover as we all are. *I've attached photos just so all could see how POOR the room service was...
First trip since February
COVID 19 had made us very cautious about venturing away from home. We decided to visit Omni Bedford Springs because we could drive there quite easily. The resort did not disappoint. We felt safe, with all staff wearing masks, good social distancing, and the option to waive room service. We were there from Sunday through Wednesday, when there were far fewer guests than at the weekend. We enjoyed the wonderful trails, and visited the Flight 93 memorial, drove the covered bridge loop, and cycled around a lake at Shawnee Park.
Relax, Renew, Relax
We had a wonderful long weekend at the OBS. The room and the view was spectacular. However, two things of note. We could not get a decent reservation time for dinner in the Crystal Room on Friday or Saturday night but that worked out fine because we had to fabulous dinners off site. Also, I was extremely disappointed that it was VERY clear the room had not been sufficiently vacuumed/swept. I found a variety of “things” on the floor including a plastic cap, a piece of Chex Mix and a dead bug. Other than that we got just what we came here for ..... We also tried Trap Shooting that was arranged by OBS off site. We had a blast. Our instructors Brian and Mike were the best. We would come back. I highly recommend a room with a porch!
My fiancé and I were searching for a place to stay on the way home from our Elopement and this place couldn’t have been more perfect. It is a beautiful Resort with so many amenities and restaurants right on the grounds. It’s on nice quiet grounds in the beautiful mountains. The rooms were beautiful with an extremely comfortable bed. Usually I can’t sleep in hotel beds but this one was perfect! We had dinner at a restaurant on the grounds and it was delicious! There’s plenty of walking and hiking trails on the grounds or near by. I would highly recommend this resort. Wonderful stay.
Nice people and place but not quite set on COVID management
The place is lovely and the staff are all wonderful. Our concerns are mainly about their COVID management. Though the place is operating at very limited capacity, we were put in a room that had just been occupied. We know this because we booked 2 rooms. One was ready when we arrived and the other wasn't. We went to the ready one while we waited for the other, which was adjacent, to be cleaned. Why weren't we put into a room that had aired out for a few days? Also, we realized in the middle of the night, we likely were sleeping on pillows that had been used be others the night before. The other concern is restaurant capacity. We only eat outdoors. There was only 1 restaurant with outdoor seating and it was limited to 5 tables, though the hotel was very busy and they have plenty of space for more tables. However, since our rooms opened to the large balcony, we ordered take out and enjoyed it on the balcony, which was quite nice. One other very odd situation was with the coffee in the rooms. Each room has a Kuerig machine and coffee pods are provided. However, they only leave decaf. We realized this the 1st morning and assumed it was a mistake by housekeeping. We called the front desk and 1/2 hr later someone delivered regular coffee pods to our room. As we left for the day, we mentioned to the front desk that we want to be sure to have regular coffee for the next AM. When we returned to the room at the end of the day, there was a bag hanging on the door with many pods. We assumed they were regular but they were, we discovered the next AM, all decaf. As I went to the cafe for real coffee, I passed housekeeping staff, asked if they had regular pods, and was told there are no regular pods. "Only decaf is available. We are out of regular." That seems really odd. They could even by regular at the local grocery! And, if they did, indeed, have a supply challenge, they should have left a note in the room. It came off as multiple staff mistakes.
