Fawlty Towers of Benarraba1! -left a day early!
Don't stay here if you have concerns about the Covid 19 virus or like hot food. Very sad that a hotel in such a beautiful situation is so badly managed. Very steep steps make a difficult access to reception. The young staff were helpful and friendly, but you could see a lack of attention to detail. 3 of the 6 sun loungers by the pool were split. I only saw 1 instance of a table being wiped down, before we sat at it. I saw no wiping down of dining tables or chairs. I understand this to be completely illegal in Spain under new Covid 19 opening rules. The first evening the dining room opened, we waited half an hour for 2 glasses of wine, 1 hour for our starter, and then no fork with our main course, which was then cold by the time the poor young waiter found them!. I gave mine to the stray dog which was on the dining terrace. We discovered later that a woman who spent an hour during this time talking to other guests was the manager, who had obviously not noticed that the waiter was trying his best, but struggling. On retreating to our balcony we pulled the door closed, which then locked! The worker who finally climbed onto our balcony to break in, after we refused to climb 6 metres down a ladder, then said we shouldn't have shut the balcony door to keep the mosquitoes out and it was our fault!! We moved to a much better hotel in Gaucin.
Fabulous views, great pool, delicious food but...
...the pool changing rooms and loos really let the hotel down. I have never stayed here but come often to have lunch and swim in the lovely pool with its mountain views and birdsong. The food is very good, service friendly if a bit slow but the experience is spoilt by broken showers and loos in the changing rooms. Visitors pay 4 euros each for a sunbed even if they eat lunch so it would be nice if some repairs were done (it's been getting worse over the years). There's parking but even if you don't drive the hotel will arrange a taxi from nearby villages like Gaucin. A good way to spend an afternoon.
What a find...a simple, out of the way rural hotel full of character. Amazing swimming pool, plenty of parking. The rooms are very clean and simply furnished in traditional Spanish style. The restaurant and outside patio area is out of this world. Friendly staff serving gorgeous Spanish tapas, lunch and dinners
Fantastic setting, lovely hotel.
Without doubt one of the most beautiful settings of any hotel we have stayed in. See photo for the view. Our room, number 2, was a good size with flat screen TV and wi-fi plus a balcony with fantastic views. The room was only 55 euros plus tax. The breakfast is just 5 euros for a buffet with everything you can think of. Good coffee, juice, cereal, fruit, road, eggs, cheese, meat, pastries. All eaten on the beautiful terrace out front, which had , you guessed it, fantastic views! The restaurant caters well for vegetarians and behind it is a very large pool. I made it over 20 metres. It has a large grassy surround with sunbeds. Great walking directly from the hotel. A donkey came to visit while we were there. All in all a fabulous place to stay.
Fabulous spot with extra special service.Dont miss it
Spent just one night here after a long hard days walk but would have liked to have stayed longer. Our host was really welcoming and could not have done more to make us feel welcome. The whole hotel was spotless, room and bathroom very comfortable with amazing views. Dinner and breakfast were really good too. Plenty to set us up for another long days walk. Highly recommend this hotel.
