More about the hotel
Disappointing - not worth the cost/night
Rooms very outdated and bed too small. Bathroom had no soap/shampoo and small/cheap towels. Only clean room every 3 days! Who would stay that long? Breakfast basic (boiled egg) but ok. Restaurant closed at 8pm and owners locked up, so if eating there eat early and go to bed! We chose to walk to town (15/20 min walk) and arrive back late. Disappointing - not worth the cost/night (€90 + tax).
Disappointing
We arrived at the property needing to go to the toilet and made our way there, following the signs to be greeted by a woman who all I can say wasn’t very friendly. She turned out to be the owner! Not a great start but aside from that I’d be willing to forgive that but her mood didn’t change much towards us. Positives are that the property was clean but dated, few might say quaint but with alot of imagination! The breakfast was fresh and okay. The location was a 15 minute walk to the town and 5 minutes to the salt mine but as we had a car this wasn’t worth paying extra for......absolutely not worth the money! Very OVERPRICED!
Very accommodating and excellent breakfast
Stayed here during the summer and had a lovely time, the two owners were very sweet and accomodating. The breakfast was fantastic and left us both very satisfied. Bus stop is very close making travel around the town's very easy, would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Berchtesgaden.
Very simple, very old
The hotel is situated quite well, hotspots like the old town or the main station are within a nice 25-minute-walk. Free parking is available. The hosts did their best to be friendly, altough they might not be everybody's cup o' tea. Our room was really simple and has not seen many repairs, let alone modernization in the past decades (windows did not go on tilt, toilet paper holder was barely attached to the wall, sanitary facilities looked really worn, and I mean really really). There was just one socket in the room, and you have to share it with the tv, so you better organize your charging times. The tv itself was a flatscreen with cable programmes, so that was fine, but it was positioned around a corner so you cannot see it from the bed. You cannot move it either because of the lack of sockets. Nice little features like a refridgerator, a water boiler and instant coffee or a large mirror or whatever you might hope to find are also missing. Clealiness: sheets and towels were all good. But the shower looked disgusting: it was discolored in lots of places, there was also muck and grime in the corners, and I really hate that. Same muck behind the tap. Breakfast: really basic, nothing fancy. Dry bread and only the cheapest things, from cheese to juice to pre-packaged marmelade. Coffee was ok. All in all: I believe these people mean well, but they really did not move an inch since 1960. Our room was 90 Euros a night, and I've been to family run bed'n'breakfasts or small hotels that left nothing to be desired for less. So if you want to come here, be prepared and bring a power strip.
Lovely family run guesthouse
This is a typical no thrills German guesthouse which may not have huge rooms and new bathrooms but full of character and a charming, welcoming atmosphere. The owners were just fabulous and nothing was too much. Typical German breakfast with fresh cheese/meat and fruit. Try the restaurant as well - food was delicious. I would definitely go back.
