Hotel a bit tired but staff were great

Reviewed 27 july, 2021

Stayed here on July 11th 2021. Due to unforeseen circumstances I didn’t arrive until 1am in the morning after driving around the roadworks and one way systems as my sat nav was getting quite confused. Woman on my own and was quite distraught and flustered and felt totally vulnerable. I phoned the hotel and Matt who answered instructed me to put the postcode on Google on my phone which I did and helped me get there. When I finally arrived I was relieved there was a parking place right outside the hotel as I didn’t fancy having to go and park my car at the parking lot across the road at that time on my own. Matt was very sweet and helpful and sorted out my parking for me and gave me a fab room and I was very grateful after the journey I’d just had. I couldn’t commend him more. Thanks Matt. I can see how the hotel was once splendid but is probably a bit tired now and due a refurb or as I believe is the case, needs to be torn down. The staff however were all great.

Absolutely terrible - that goes for the hotel and the staff

Reviewed 14 july, 2021

I’ve heard this hotel is closing down and I am not surprised. The rooms are so old and smell, there are no spare sockets to use - one is where the tv is plugged in and the other where an old rickety fan needs to be plugged in as the room is so stuffy. I had to keep unplugging the fan to use my sons milk machine and I had to keep unplugging the tv (which barely worked anyway) to charge my phone. The bathroom was dirty and the whole room was below any standard. Yes they say this is one of the cheapest hotels in the city but you can certainly see why and I’ve learnt that I would rather pay double to stay somewhere suitable. I felt terrible staying there with my son, he deserved a better place to sleep. Parking is a joke, they have a handful of spaces which you stand little to no chance of getting and your have to find a multi-storey opposite and drag all your cases etc across a main road. Although this isn’t the hotel or staffs fault it is certainly a negative of the hotel and they weren’t particularly helpful. my main (of many) issues is the staff. I rang in advance to ask if I could store my insulin in their fridge and they said no (I have gestational diabetes and am 16 weeks pregnant). They said this is due to covid restrictions (all other hotels I stayed at - 5 on this trip - allowed me to) so I said ok well could you provide me with a mini fridge (like holiday in express offered for me no problem at all). They said no. I explained this is urgent medication for me and my unborn baby and must be refrigerated. They said there’s nothing they can do but that I could upgrade my room to a club room as they have built in fridges. I said ‘so I’ll have to pay? To which I was told well yes it’s an upgrade you haven’t paid for that room. I explained that it was unfair to force me to pay more money to be able to store my medication which I MUST have. I felt discriminated against for being pregnant and having a serious medical condition. I asked to speak to a manager and was appalled to find I was speaking to a manager! His name was Naz. He was so rude and kept talking over me and telling me I had to pay him more money for a club room or I couldn’t store my meds. When I said ok I will take this to social media to tell them how you treat pregnant women and how you’re the only hotel who not only offered no help but expected me to pay for a solution that they should have given in the first place! At the mention of this all of a sudden Naz changed his tune and ‘upgraded’ me for free so I had a fridge (why it took all this time and trying to get extra money out of me to offer this I have no idea). Also if the room I stayed in was apparently an upgrade I would hate to have seen the room I was initially meant to be in! The staff Upon check in and check out were similarly rude and clearly didn’t care. There is not one redeeming thing about this hotel and the best place for it is to be abolished. It couldn’t have carried on like this. Terrible hotel.

Gutted, disappointed and the staff have clearly given up!

Reviewed 9 july, 2021

After saving for a year to take our 2 autistic children on a short city break with my sister in law we were really dissatisfied. To say that we were gutted was an understatement. The hotel is dirty. After staying in Millennium Hotels before we thought staying in Birmingham Copthorne was going to be a real treat! Ive never had an issue before but cleanliness for us was a real issue. Light switches, windows, doors, carpets, bath etc etc I really can’t covey the difference between the pictures online and what you actually get! Its old and dated - smelt very much like a nursing home. It’s like the staff have truly given up! We found out after checking in that the whole hotel is closing down at the end of the month! If I’d realised that it was being shut down and the staff weren’t bothering to clean or maintain anymore I’d have gone to travelodge! I trusted the Millennium Hotels name and won’t be again. I feel let down as a family! Maintenance is clearly an after thought, the cleanliness was disappointing - moldy sink / bath, the carpet worn - bare in parts and coming off the gripper rods. My sister in law has nerve damage and sadly was bleeding before we’d notice (as she doesn’t feel it!). After a complaint to the management we were given a room change which was arranged while we were out for the day. We were taken to a room as an alternative which apparently was the best alternative available but wow even more dated and dirty! We were made to feel uncomfortable by the member of staff for having a complaint. The carpet was hanging off the wall! Feeling completely let down. It wasn’t cheap and didn’t have a problem paying if it was upto the usual Millennium Hotel standards … no wonder it’s being knocked down!!

Good value for money

Only stayed one night but staff were great very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good too. Although the hotel could do with updating it was clean and for what we paid it was good value for money. Location was great only a short walk to the centre
