Great Location, Friendly Staff, Fantastic Breakfast

Reviewed 29 february, 2020

This is a totally satisfactory hotel located literally a block away from The Museo del Oro en La Candelaria. I arrived late but was greeted quickly and efficient; in five minutes I was setting up my devices. The room was clean but tiny and I had to plan to find enough space to put down my few trappings. There was no heat or AC but it was not necessary as the temp was a nice 55 degrees-perfect for sleeping. The lighting was adequate but shaving would have been an adventure. The wi fi was surprisingly good; I was able to live stream a basketball game. The bedding was comfortable and there were 4 pillows on the queen size bed. The tiny bathroom featured a bar of soup and a plastic cup. A small minibar offered a few beers, sodas, and some junk food at not-inflated prices. The room was quiet and comfortable, and had I not been so jet lagged, I probably would have slept well. The staff is friendly and accommodating; not everyone speaks English, but learning a few Spanish words and phrases makes all the difference. The included breakfast is a minimalist cooked-to-order omelette or eggs, cereal, and various juices and fruits. The outstanding location makes access to the old town, major museums, many restaurants, public transport, and the two best known areas to buy emeralds. For $65, the no-frills place is perfect to explore La Candelaria.

Great room, great breakfast, good central location

Reviewed 25 february, 2020

It was not a good first impression when we arrived in the pouring rain, and the receptionist couldn't find our booking and didn't seem overly bothered about it. I had to show her confirmation on my phone for her to then look a bit harder, finally finding it but no explanation or apology. We then had to sign numerous forms, goodness knows what for, and hope they are not signed to be charged for anything ! But after the initial bad start, the rest was all good. Our Twin Room was lovely, nice and spacious and even had a mini fridge, hob and sink - like a mini kitchenette. Desk, wardrobe, loads of power sockets, and a safe as well. No ac, so the room got quite stuffy so had to keep the windows open. The shower was the best we've had in 3 weeks in Colombia, super pressure, boiling hot, and lots of room - amazing ! Very good value, and the breakfast was really good - cereal, coffee/hot chocolate, fresh juices, eggs to order, pancakes, fresh bread, cheese, ham, salad, toast etc. Very small area though with only a few tables, so it soon felt very cramped. Lovely rooftop garden, but unfortunately it rained both evenings we were there so we didn't use it. Originally built in 1921, and some of it does show its age - the lift looks like the original, really tiny, and jerks alarmingly when it first moves ! The morning receptionist spoke very good english and was really friendly and helpful, and booked us a taxi to the airport for 36,000 pesos. Very good location in La Candelaria area, so nice and easy to walk to main sights from there, and just around the corner from Museo de Oro.

VERY SMALL

Reviewed 20 february, 2020

It is a very small hotel, although the quality of service is good is not always everything you request. There are several reforms that must be done because maintenance problems can be seen with the naked eye, and additionally the elevator is always blocked.

A home away from home!

A home away from home! Nothing was too much trouble and I’m very high maintenance! They adapted the menu to be gluten free and extended our check out time because I felt unwell. The shower is awesome and the rooms are big. Most of all the staff were a huge support when we had to change our flights abruptly due to a family emergency. Thank you to Gabriel and everyone at Hotel Regina!
