Terrible Wi-Fi

Reviewed 29 october, 2021

Terrible Wi-Fi - essentially nonfunctional. Could not use to make reservations, or buy tickets. Staff for the most part was indifferent. Breakfast was nice. Not sure that the location was worth it. All in all, an ok experience.

Poor customer service, bad location, not great for tourists

Reviewed 19 october, 2021

We were really disappointed with our stay in this hotel. From the very moment that we arrived to the very last moment that we walked out of it. What a shame for the Mercure name! We live in France and have stayed in dozens Mercure hotels around France because of an expected high level of customer service, particularly to the members. We are usually not disappointed - we’re members and staff usually recognize and appreciate its loyal members… not at this hotel. The staff was terrible, things are badly organized (frequently a bartender attends to the reception, is clueless and doesn’t speak good English), pandemic related protocols followed poorly (ONE sign for social distancing in front of the elevator on the ground floor and nowhere else, so most of the time we found the small elevator packed). Unlike other Mercure hotels that we stayed at before and since then, no one asked for the sanitary pass at check in at this hotel but they ask for it randomly at breakfast - makes very little sense, is terribly organized and creates long lines in the breakfast room. We were blown away by a small but very telling thing that happened - a toaster in the breakfast room broke on our second day at the hotel… and wasn’t replaced by the time we left several days later! We asked and we’re told that it’s broken… Really? The hotel of that caliber could not afford to buy a toaster to replace the broken one? Just a smaller type maybe, temporarily? That just speaks volumes of the management style of the hotel. Disappointing. In our opinion and experience this hotel is not good for tourists - the location is not good, surrounded by this terrible industrial-looking mall and buildings (we were a bit concerned walking there after dark) - some pics attached of what we saw from the window- it’s really not close to any attractions (well, some marine museum, maybe), it’s close to a tram line….but who wants to use overcrowded trams on a holiday? So, we noticed that their main clientele are business travelers- quick in and out, no time to focus on things, not really caring for comfort, unlike tourists would. Also, the hotel has some weird hours when restaurant and bar are open, really unusual… We wanted to have a drink on Friday afternoon (around 7, I think) and the bar was closed! Whaaaaaaaat? I mean, the receptionist (grudgingly) poured a “member” glass of wine but couldn’t make a cocktail… Also, God help you if you get hungry staying at that hotel! They serve dinner in this small reception area with only several tables (well, we never could get in) while they have a perfectly good large breakfast room that could be used as a dining room? Just saying… And because of the hotel’s location, there isn’t that many places to eat around and some are closed on weekends as well. We did find one tavern around the corner but it was closed on Sunday and I think Monday as well, so after walking around town all day, even though tired, we had to drag ourselves back downtown just to find some place to eat… wow Also, the hotel caters to large tour groups, we saw several during our stay, and with large tour groups…well, just think about it. We did find one positive about the hotel - it’s close to the mall and we were able to go buy a bottle of hair conditioner - because the hotel didn’t have even a small bottle to spare! That was a first in our experience! Oh, and there is a Paul cafe in the mall so that was helpful a couple of times… We didn’t like this hotel, didn’t feel comfortable, it was a really disappointing stay and we not only don’t recommend it, we in fact advised our friends not to stay there because there is for sure an abundance of better choices in Bordeaux… it’s just a shame that we had to find out through our personal experience which definitely had an impact on our visit to Bordeaux. With so many other hotels available, the management most certainly needs to up its game running this one.

Mercure Bordeaux Centre

Staff very helpful and adhering to Covid-19 rules. Hotel was clean with all necessary means to keep Covid at bay! Meals, ie dinner/breakfast were taken in room. We had to collect dinner when telephoned by staff but breakfast was delivered to room at specified time. It was all very efficient and friendly. Would recommend hotel to friends for visit to Bordeaux as its very central for walking to City Centre and commerce. Obviously even more so in non-Covid times. Our second stay at hotel for visits to Prefecture which is 3 min. walk away.

Excellent hotel in perfect location.

Loved this hotel. Very clean, large clutter free bedroom, good bathroom with a bathtub, friendly and helpful staff. We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights and everything was good, the bed was comfy, bedroom n bathroom were spotless, housekeeping did a great job, breakfast buffet was yummy BUT they only had scrambled eggs (no omelettes/fried eggs) and unfortunately the egg boiler machine wasn’t working so there were no boiled eggs either, I requested the staff if they can get an omelette or boiled eggs for me as I couldn’t eat dairy. They said it’ll be separate as omelette and fried eggs aren’t included in the buffet. I said ok, not a problem. All three days i had eggs for breakfast, the chef was so sweet, she made special omelettes for me and when I was checking out, I found out they didn’t charge me for eggs at all. It was all complimentary. Super hospitality and super courteous staff. THANK YOU!!! Tram and bus station is nearby (hardly 3-5 min walk). The ONLY thing my husband and I DID NOT like was when the girl at the reception asked for the debit card and blocked 150 Euro as security deposit IMMEDIATELY without even informing us or asked for permission when we checked in and handed a receipt to me. When i asked her why has she made a transaction of 150, she said 50 euro per night. She didn’t tell us that before. I told her we have been staying in Accor hotels since last 20 days and every hotel took our card as security deposit but none of them actually blocked any amount. She said the amount will be released and it’ll be shown in my account INSTANTLY. She should have informed us BEFORE making the transaction. When we checked out they unblocked the amount. HOWEVER it took almost 5 working days to get the amount back into my account AFTER checking out. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would love to stay in the same hotel again.

Great for a weekend

Service was very nice and helpful. Not too far from main Bordeaux tourist area, about a 10 minute walk. No lotion or conditioner in the room or upon request, so come prepared. Breakfast good, not many vegetarian options. Great stay, very comfortable and very clean.
