We were guests at the hotel on Friday 10th December. The hotel is beautiful and staff very friendly unfortunately we were in a room on the first floor and just down the stairs we had the cocktail bar with live music until 1.30am and also the nightclub which did not close until 5.30am so all night the bass was coming up through floor. The when we left on Saturday morning I had two footprints on the windscreen of the car obviously someone ran up the bonnet and over the windscreen leaving dents and muck all over my car. We contacted the hotel who were at first very understanding but apparently could find nothing on the cctv or the motion sensor footage. We are now left with picking up the bill to get dents removed. The fact we had to pay for the privilege of parking in the hotel carpark this is very disappointing.
Is this a hotel or a nightclub?

That's a trick question of course, because it turns out this place is both! Unusually for a decent hotel, it turned out this place also has a nightclub on site, with very loud, very audible music going on until 5am. In a hotel. There's a reason that no other hotel I've ever stayed at in my whole life has a nightclub on site, and that's because it's not actually possible for both sets of customers to enjoy the two (very) different experiences that both places are offering at the same time. The reason why hotels don't have nightclubs is the same reason why you don't see a perfume shop with an onsite fishmonger, or a waterpark with adjoining art gallery. They don't go together. If what you are looking for is a good night's sleep, and let's be honest, who is looking for anything else when they pay for a hotel? Then I'm afraid this is one to avoid. I should say this may only be an issue on the weekend, there was no issue on Thursday night, only Friday night, and we did receive a message from the hotel ahead of time saying they had a bar on site with a DJ which can go as late as 2am, but that's a wholly different thing to a banging nightclub going on until 5am with no concession in volume for all the people sleeping (or not sleeping) in the hotel. When we complained at the desk in the morning, they weren't bothered and pointed to the message with the incorrect information we'd received. Apart from that, cleanliness, location etc, all fine. Obviously I won't be staying there again, although if I fancied going to a nightclub on a night out, it certainly would be an option.
DONT STAY HERE

Wonderful mix of refreshed historical wonder and delight in this outstanding piece of Victorian Architecture. Spacious and very clean room with great views. HOWEVER, unless attending the live music gigs, you will NOT sleep as music does not finish until 04:00 and certain rooms feel like your bed is in the middle of a nightclub. Another tip: Wetherspoons for breakfast is a 5 minute walk compared to £13/head for nothing at all exceptional.
Ridiculously noisey! Don’t stay here if you want some sleep.

There are 2 bars attached to this hotel that have regular entertainment. We were unaware of this and our room was right above all the noise which went on until 5am!! We got very little sleep. When I complained the next morning I was told that I had been sent an email from booking.com which mentioned the bars. I replied saying I get loads of emails from booking.com as I use them a lot and most is marketing blurb so I don’t always read the fine details. I did receive a polite follow up phone call from the hotel to discuss my complaint but I shall not be going back!
