Potential to be fantastic
Lovely welcoming lady at check in/out and at restaurant when available. Lovely looking restaurant, bar and room. However that’s where it ended. The room was freezing, they had a portable heater in there, they’d run out of hot water. We went for dinner, service was extremely slow, I had to ask where my drink was as it hadn’t arrived. Run out of certain foods on menu. Food wasn’t even good. Asked if we wanted dessert, waited at least 45 minutes for a menu... we gave up and went to the bar to tell them. The nice lady again apologised, gave a drink on the house which we took upstairs but was a long day and late so didn’t bother and honestly didn’t make up for everything. This place certainly has a lot of potential, looks lovely but needs a lot more staff. Also bed was way too soft, we both woke with very sore backs. To top it off, on my email it says check out between 10-11am. Some grumpy old man knocks on the door “Check out is 10:30, the cleaners are waiting!”. Very disappointed.
Superb New Year’s Eve - everything was perfect!
Just experienced the best New Year’s Eve celebrations at the Parson Woodforde. Fabulous entertainment pre, during and after the meal, delicious and beautifully presented food and friendly, attentive staff, as always... All in all an absolutely superb evening! Thank you so much to Alison, Steve and all your amazing staff.
Off the beaten track but definitely worth the visit.
We had a fantastic meal here recently. Large variety of seasonal food on the menu, all well cooked and beautifully presented. We enjoy pigeon to start; followed by poachers pie in a suet crust while I had the scallop and prawn pappardelle - both dishes were great. Although, full one look at the desert menu and we were selecting a treacle tart and chocolate orange bread and butter pudding. They also have a varied & comprehensive wine menu. We would thoroughly recommend this place: good food and a pleasant, laid-back atmosphere.
Disappointed I’m afraid..
Last came here four years ago when we lived nearby and it was great. Today my wife had steak pie. The pastry was uncooked in places as it had been rolled too thick so she left the pastry. Her carrots were luke warm and we couldnt believe we got frozen chips? Her treacle tart was odd, it was tasteless, dry pastry and chewy and the ice cream was lack lustre, she had to leave it as it was that bad. I had a lovely suet pastry game pie and a separate portion of chips, which at £20 I expect hand cut triple cooked chips, but the pie was lovely but I could have done with more veg and dauphinoise potatoes. The dauphinoise potatoes were perfect. I suspect my wife’s meal had been put out in the kitchen waiting for mine to cook. We left feeling very disappointed and compared it to our previous nights stay at the Barnham Broom golf club which was excellent. The staff and pub were lovely..
Disappointing
We've wanted to try this dining pub for ages and finally got the chance recently. Not sure what it is that is off-putting - we struggled to put our finger on it. The food is good although somewhat overpriced for what you get, and the staff are very efficient. I think it was a combination of waiting staff seemingly run off their feet even though there were only a few tables occupied which leads us to think that the atmosphere was lacking (as the place was practically empty when we visited). We did a straw poll as we got in the car and the decision was that we probably wouldn't bother to make the effort to drive to Weston Longville again - which is a shame as it's in a lovely spot.
