Disgusting and filthy room!
Reviewed 3 May, 2021
Too many horrible things to list about how gross this room was. I will NEVER stay at a Quality Inn again... you would think having the brand name would lend itself to some minimum level of quality, but no. Just no.
The room: no screens on the windows, burn holes in the drapes (this is for a "non-smoking" room), the door did not seal properly (and lopsided in frame so that inch wide sunlight shining through along the sides). The kitchenette had a flat surface stove that was totally cracked and patched with duct tape, and some of the knobs were missing (pretty sure it didn't work, although I didn't try it!), the fridge had been kicked in with huge gouges on the door, the toilet gurgled all night, cracked tiles on the floor, torn carpet, everything totally filthy and gross and disgusting. It was a non-smoking room, but located right above the smoker's area, so all the smoke rose up and came in the cracks alongside the door and windows. All my clothes reeked of smoke when I came home. Water dribbled from the showerhead (very poor plumbing job); baseboard poorly patched and not painted- a kindergartener could do a better job with carpentry and repairs in this room. Disgusting parking area full of potholes and the clientele very scary (people living in their cars, etc) and partying down at the smokers area with lots of drinking and loud talking. No clock, no easily accessible outlets to plug your phone in (need to move furniture around to find an electrical outlet). I didn't try the TV so I have no idea if it worked or not. Very hard to figure out how to turn on the lights (only way is groping up inside the lampshades to feel around for the knob to turn, no wall switches to control the lights), and even when they were all turned on, it was very dark in the room.
The only good thing I can say about the room was that the fridge had a separate compartment for the freezer, which made it handy to put my freezer packs in. There was a little coffee maker which served its purpose of making one cup of coffee. The towels seemed ok and there were enough towels/ washclothes/ handtowels for one person (two of each), but if you had two people and you wanted to use a washcloth or handtowel for the ktichen area, you would not have them available for the bathroom.
I can't believe I spent $114 on this room- what a total ripoff! Such a waste of money. I could have stayed anywhere else for this amount of money and had such a better room. I wonder if the hotel owner is a franchisee that simply uses the Quality Inn name to bring in unsuspecting visitors- I always thought if you stayed at a hotel that was part of a nationwide chain, there would be a certain level of quality and safety, that the parent company would care about defending their reputation. That is definitely not the case at this hotel- this is a horrible, disgusting place and I would not recommend it to anyone.
Filthy old scary place goodwill furniture

Don't stay here it does not look like pictures. My room was so filthy and old with goodwill furniture. The only source of light was table lamps. No grab bar for shower. NO breakfast or pool use. Scary trailer parked in lot for ??? Dark walkways. Curtains did not fit. No security chain. Still cost an overpriced $100. I wish I had read the reviews. Be safe stay away. Paper thin walls could hear all coming and going.

This used to be one of my favorite places to stay....Not anymore! This time Some of the staff members were extremely rude starting at check in. The guy gave us a handicap room, shower ONLY, after we specifically asked for a bathtub! I try not to complain about certain things since I once was an assistant to the head housekeeper at Clarion Inn and Convention Center and am aware of what the job entails and the obvious effects due to covid taken into consideration. That being said, Bren I believe her name was at the front desk was an Absolute Nightmare! I'd offer giving the benefit of the doubt by chalking it up as a bad day but we were there from Fri-Sun so each interaction was worse than the first. Not only was our so called relaxing weekend interrupted by the fact that we had to drag ALL our Amenities ALL the way down to the front desk from the far end of the establishment in order to receive fresh towels, etc. While housekeeping was right outside our doors and couldn't/wouldn't do what I considered their Jobs but I also had to drag the filthy coffee pot down as well! At which point btw, after I had to go to the lobby early that a.m. for coffee, Bren didn't even attempt to replace it! I also inquired about the construction in the room right next to us which in turn was given a rude response! Later 2 very pleasant young men made up for Bren's atrocious behavior. The first being Adam who immediately made sure our coffee pot was replaced, clean! The second was Mike who apologized for the noise he was making next door & assured us he wouldn't be disruptive to much longer. To top it off at the end of our stay in order to retrieve our deposit back before we left they come check the room which as per usual I do most of the work as well as tip housekeeping. We had a double queen room which we ordinarily tend to use both during a weekend stay but this time we happen to only use one, Alot! 🥰 The housekeeper starts tearing apart the room before Bren reaches it and they proceed to accuse us of stealing blankets from the bed we never even used, refusing to return our deposit! Listen, I feel it's safe to say that if your staff hates their jobs, it's definitely Bad For Business!
1- Cleanliness= ** 👎
2- Quality of Service= *** (Only Thanks to Adam and Mike!) Otherwise it would be *!
3- Overall Stay= ** 👎
It's a shame that this has effected My entire opinion of this place due to the fact that we stay there between 5-10 times a year!
Not Covid Compliant as Comfort Hotel Brand Boasts about

Before leaving this review I reached out to Choice Hotels personally and received no response in return.
This is the letter I sent them. If you want the abridged version, just go right to the pictures.
I just wanted to share my recent experience with Choice Hotels.
On 10/25/2020 we checked in to room #120 at the Quality Inn in Shingle Springs, CA. We were "warned" by staff that someone had just moved out of this room after a 2 week stay. This was evident by a heavy dog smell upon entering the room. It was obvious this room had been prepared in a hurry without attention to detail (see photos) including sticky kitchen floors and a general feeling of griminess.
Around 11pm we were preparing to get into bed so I did a quick scan with my trusty travel black light, which revealed some heavily stained sheets (see pics). I notified the front desk, they brought a fresh set and told me to go ahead and make the bed myself. I was mistakenly brought queen sheets for a king bed that were just as stained as the first, but these came equipped with cigarette burns too. I called the front desk again and another set of sheets was brought over. This time I had her wait in the room while I once again made my own bed, and once more the sheets were too small. She came back to the room a final time letting me know they were out of king sheets and blankets and instead brought with her 2 flat queen sheets, 2 twin-bed size mattress pads (?) for a blanket and a thin comforter that resembled and possibly was, a curtain. I quickly got to work making my own bed for a third time. After getting settled in to watch TV we discovered the TV remote had no batteries. At this point the lady at the front desk was longer willing to visit our room and told me I would have to come to get the batteries myself. So off I went into the night, in my PJ's, to get batteries.
At 10:30 am on 10/26/2020 we checked out at the front desk. I shared my experience and photos with the lady and maintenance man working at that time. The lady had me email the pictures to her at the front desk for her to show the general manager. She called me back at 3:56 pm that day to tell me that the GM could offer me 50% of the room and stated that because I actually stayed in the room and didn't leave the night before that that was the best they could do. I obviously would like to have left the night before but packing up at 11pm in search for a new room wasn't a reasonable option.
Side notes: The pictures are including two different sets of sheets and maybe I didn't do it right but I signed up for Choice Privileges when I booked this room and wasn't offered my snack at check-in.
I'm not even mad I'm just really surprised by the lackadaisical attitude of the staff regarding issues of cleanliness, customer service and quality at at a hotel called Quality, especially in the midst of this COVID season.
One more thing...
I wasn't refunded for the first charge, but charged a half room rate on top. As I write this I've currently paid for this room 1.5 times.

Pros and Cons

Pro - within walking distance to fast food. They have one parking space available for EVs. Staff is polite. The internet seems to work well.
Cons - not everyone is practicing social distancing and wearing masks. The walls seem to be very thin. I can hear the cars and trucks throughout the night.
Due to COVID no breakfast is available for part of our reservations.
