Beware the roads!

Visited here last year with friends and while we enjoyed our cute cabin experience, I absolutely have to mention the roads to get to this place! Omg! It was extremely treacherous to navigate in our tiny car and I can't imagine driving up at night. It's unpaved and uphill most of the way and it was pretty scary at certain points. I didn't see this mentioned in any other reviews so had to bring it up because it was a major drawback of the place for us. Once we were there we did enjoy our accommodations and the adventures offered - we were there on a weekend so the place was a ghost town. Check it out but just a heads up about the drive in!
A large eco-lodge

Stopped on the way here to do a trail through the Rincon de la Vieja park. This meant we had a whole day to use the facilities of the hotel The mud baths and hot springs are included in the cost and a large trailer pulled by a tractor takes you there over a bumpy, hilly path. Towels are provided when you get there and you can stay as long as you like. It takes 30 mins to organise a tractor/trailer to come and collect you.
Horse riding available for those who can.
Rooms are good, restaurants OK. Sunset bar was lovely but sunset disappointing! We stayed on Valentines night and there was a cheesy buffet dinner with live music. The singer was terrible, but a thoroughly enjoyable evening nonetheless! Not too much in the way of wildlife - howler monkeys, iguanas and a few birds. Extensive grounds, but pool small and cold. Very few sunbeds and almost no shade. Many lakes to walk. Didn't do any of the hanging bridges as we did them else where, along with the zip wires.

Fabulous lodge with loads of wildlife evident and lots more if prepared to look. Nicely laid out in sections and rooms comfy. Food good and varied. The hanging bridges and walks at ground level in rainforest excellent. Lots to do there and being a guest get free use of the spa which involves a tractor ride to get there and back. Organisation of events very good. Would recommend a stay there especially if you like varied activities, nature and sunsets.
Great Location and Good Ranch Experience

We stayed here for two nights in January. The place is located at a high elevation with wonderful views and incredible sunsets from the terrace of the bar. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Good bathrooms. Lots of activities - we did horse back riding, mud baths and hot spring pools, zip lining. They have a jungle water slide that is 1 km long - so sorry I did not get a chance to try it. All the staff was very friendly and helpful. Meals were good although our squash was literally raw and could not be eaten one night. Most of all, the views are spectacular!!! Do not miss!!!

As part of our hotel package, we were offered many different day excursions in which we choose here for one of our days out. There was a deal making this trip very good value for money given everything that is included, transport, water slide experience; with towels etc provided, 7-8 zip wires, horse riding or tractor ride down straight to the hot springs or first a visit to the waterfall, lunch was fantastic as was a variety of food even for the pickiest eaters. From their national food rice and beans to tomato soup and pasta. What I did find a shame was that only juice and was included with lunch and as they do they make the drinks very expensive to purchase as there is no where else to get them. Otherwise was at the top of our beat days in Costa Rica, would definitely recommend there was also a professional photographer taking photos on the water slide and zip wire, a fantastic bonus. These were an additional cost of you wanted to take them home.
