Wild adventure
This was a real cool place. If you need AC and Internet just don't go. We loved disconnecting and getting into the nature. The tents had very comfortable beds and really neat bathrooms. We missed the memo that we had to hike into the park but that was a great trek in. Said it would take 45 minutes took us 1.5 hours, but, that was because we were loving all the wildlife on the way in. Monkeys, Macaws and so much more!! Our guide for the day hike was Kathryn and she was so sweet and knowledgeable!!. If you want a wild adventure and a unique experience this fits the bill. Only thing be prepared it is HOT!!
Amazing & memorable stay! Loved the outdoor shower!
My husband & I spent 2 nights as part of the 7-night package. Amazing experience! Highlights include: - The overall booking experience - thank you to Yassiny for being so helpful with replying to many emails and it was so great to meet you in person - Outdoor shower (at night, you can see the stars!) - Comfortable & clean beach front bungalow - loved listening & sleeping to the sounds of the jungle & ocean - The cocktails & smoothies - Andy is a wonderful human being & cocktail/drinks maker - The location is stunning - beach front, right next to Corcovado NP and has it's own walking trails - The evening hike was a surprise - you see so many creatures - The staff - special mention again to Yassiny & Andy for being so warm & helpful - 7 night package is an awesome way to experience Osa Peninsula and we highly recommend it. Very well organised.
Adventure awaits!
If you are looking for an adventure, this is it. My husband and I stayed here for 5 days during our 21 day Costa Rica trip. You have to hike into the forrest to get to the Eco Lodge. You can walk along the beach or walk on a trail through the forest. We packed light so we could carry everything with us in backpacks. You can leave your belongings at their office location and the Eco lodge will get them to you by the end of the day. The tents we stayed in were very nice. No electricity and no hot water though. We had candles in our room. The showers are outside but very private. We had an iguana living on a tree in our shower. It worried us a little at first but we got used to him and enjoyed him being there. I would recommend staying at the beachfront tents because some of the others were quite a walk up hill to get to. We ate all of our meals at the Eco Lodge. Delicious food. You do not have a menu but they will try to accommodate likes and dislikes. We enjoyed every meal. The service is exceptional! Thanks Andy! And he makes great margaritias! The beach is nice. We went swimming several times. When you walk down the beach, you see Scarlet Macaws and monkeys up in the trees. Beautiful sunsets every evening. We took the private all day hike through the jungle with a guide. You must go with a guide to get the most out of the hike. They know what to listen for so you can see lots of birds and animals. The hike starts right at the Lodge and goes through the Corcovado National park. David was our guide. We saw and learned so much from him. What a great time we had at La Leona Eco Lodge! We will be back!
Tents in a luxurious way
I have to confess that the idea of camping for a week in a tent raised worries. But the first morning with the view from the bed through the wall nets of the tent to the nice garden and the jungly soundscape was really awarding. Before going to the bed it was a concern, whether the very loudly breaking waves of the Shining Sea let us sleep. However, in the morning we were amazed of how well we slept. The minimal use of motorized vehicles is one great way to ensure a relaxed stay. We recommend to try this kind of accommodation to really immerse in the nature around you. The location of La Leona Eco Lodge next to the world famous Corcovado national park and its guard station is convenient. In addition, a jungle path network outside the park can be entered freely on your own from the backyard of the lodge any time. The best wildlife spotting was made with our splendid guide Alvaro. Since the complimentary Internet connection was up just limited times daily, it also was very occupied. We had a broadband connection in the phone (Kölbi prepaid), but we did not reach the phone network at the lodge. However, if you go to the shore line, you may get a good signal. The lack of garbage in the environment and the lodge premises was really delightful. You can see that the nature is truly valued. You may wish to have battery-operated lights in the tent, since the only complementary illumination in the tents is arranged by candles. An extension cord with multiple sockets is useful, since the number of available sockets at the charging points is very limited. We arrived in Carate after the sunset, which is not recommended. We planned to walk to the lodge along the shoreline and leave the main part of the luggage in Carate for becoming transported by Gerardo and his horse El Pinto to the lodge. However, with the kind help of a local Canadian the lodge sent an ATV to fetch us and the luggage. There we rode in the moonshine along the beach without the headlights so that the just hatched baby turtles would not be mislead to the forest instead of the ocean. We left the La Leona Eco Lodge by foot to Carate with lightly packed backsacks, while Gerardo and El Pinto took the heavy cargo to our car. The friendly staff guaranteed a pleasurable stay at La Leona. Thanks!
Paradise
This was one of the most quiet and beautiful locations we have ever visited. The lodge is very remote (bumpy drive passing several streams to get to Carate and walking an hour to the lodge) which makes your stay very peaceful. We did a guided hike in Corcovado and went horseback riding, which were both great. The staff is very friendly and the food is good. GO HERE!
