This hotel is real gem for nature lovers and who is looking for peace and silence, located in small village with fantastic panoramic views for mountains.I got the room on ground floor with shared facilities. All rooms there are looking to the valley and the opposite side of the corridor there are bathrooms and toilets. there weren't any queues for facilities and luckily I've never met anyone there. In room there isnt any TV and it was very quiet during the night, but be aware of creaking , everything was made from wool and I could clearly hear my neighbours movements. My room #31 was very clean and cosy, it got the door to the shared balcony but it was locked. Breakfast was delicious with big variety of tasty and fresh bread, some cheese and local salami, also they provide jogurt , nuts , dried and fresh fruit etc. For the lunch and dinner I had some local special dishes and it was quite appetizing, but still prices are high as everywhere in Switzerland. There arent any other cafe or restaurant in the village, just one restaurant and supermarket 4 km away from the hotel. I did some hiking, there are plenty of different routes around there and not so many other hikers I came across, even though there was wonderful warm August weather. I took the tour Wild Life Observation which is held by the hotel each Thuersday, we were trying to see Capricorns, but unfortunately we failed , only groundhogs and of course beautiful surroundings. I would recommend this place not only for hikers, but also for who want to learn more about Swiss countryside and local food.
Excellent food, breakfast staff member horrible

The rooms were fine, quite small and had shared bathroom and showers but since we were a group, that was fine. On the morning of our last day, a friend of mine and I were excited to copy another friend that had successfully boiled his egg. We did the eggs for the same length of time and were disappointed to find them completely liquid and not edible. We felt terrible wasting the eggs but apologized to the lady working there. She takes our plates, my friend leaves and I'm there with a few others. The lady comes back to our table, had fully opened my egg up and tells me it's edible in a pissed off manner. I told her I could not eat it and was bummed etc. she starts scolding me telling me I didn't leave the egg in long enough etc. when I asked her for how long then? She didn't even know, went back to the machine to look, comes back and scolds me again. We were fine with not having our eggs but she should've offered to boil them for us and not berate me. My friend from two tables over even heard the exchange and couldn't believe it. We were nothing but overly pleasant to her too. What happened to the customer is always right? Guess we're not in Kansas anymore. :)
A real hideaway with excellent local cuisine

In the remote village of Wergenstein (1480m above sea level, population 52) you find a very quiet, typical mountain hotel with friendly staff and local organic specialities. The place is very good for hiking and in summer observation of the Capricorn. A small museum in the hotel already introduces the guest to this amazing species. Eight daily bus connections from Andeer with the terminus directly in front of the hotel make the access with public transportation very easy.
Restaurant: tap water very expensive

We had a lunch on the terrace of this delicious restaurant. We were 4 and we selected two different main course "polenta" based. Polenta was excellent and cooked differently and better than the usual Italian style.
Excellent the vegetables accompanied in one case and the sausage for the other. For drink plan water!
The bill was appropriate, however I was astonished by the cost of the "tap" water served in a bottle without any label nor: 7 Swiss Francs for a liter .... and we were not in the desert!
a perfect hideaway in the alps

This very cosy hotel has the most beautiful views and great food. But he most important thing is that there is a tranquility and secludedness in this place that it opens your heart and soul, eyes and brain like the best spa.
From here you can hike into the alps easily and return at evenings for a wonderful dinner. You wake up when the sun glimpses over the mountains and enjoy a great breakfast.
The team is very nice and the rooms are great.
