Hotel Santa Mónica

Our bedroom was pretty awful, needing renovation. We complained and we were moved to another one-no better except the wardrobe door wasn't hanging off. The bathroom was disgusting, dirty and old. The shower curtain did not keep the water from spraying everywhere as there were not many curtain rings holding it on. One plastic glass was provided. The bedding was only changed the day before we left (after 11 nights) and the balcony was very grubby. We asked our TUI rep to help us but he did not follow anything up -no help at all. The food was very good, with a great choice and a clean dining room with lovely staff. The bar staff were very pleasant and helpful but for us there were too many children running around with no supervision, even when their entertainment was over and it was supposed to be then for the adults. The entertainment staff worked very hard though. The pool area was not large enough for the amount of guests , with broken sun beds and not enough sun shades if you were lucky enough to manage to get by the pool. We will not be returning.

We arrived at the hotel to find that it's closed down after we had paid to stay for a week. No notifications were sent to us saying its shut down. If you have planned a holiday here re-book as this place is no longer open. We were shocked and stressed about this as we arrived at the hotel at 22:00 with a 2 year old and no where to stay.

Came here for a nostalgic trip back in time 45 years later. From the outside the hotel is much the same, the bar area has been revamped, the pool is exactly the same with the addition of steps for easy entry. The rooms are dated, the furniture well used and in the case of my bed needed replaced as it was broken, there was a hole in the wall and various places of cracked plaster.The bathroom was disappointing mould in shower, around sink and overflow hole. The room cleaner did the best with what she had. We were there for 10 days bedding was never changed. Clean towels every day and room cleaned every day. Dining room exactly the same, staff friendly and helpful. Food terrible, not a hint of presentation, I've worked in catering for 40years and if I had served food like this I would have been sacked. The choice was limited to say the least, lot of fish, stews, and always cold. The desserts were good. No entertainment to speak of. The staff in this hotel save it. There is a new kid on the block, a pour your own beer machine, problem is if not used constantly the little flies crawl up the spout and you get a glass of beer and flies. My rating 2 star at best..

The rooms in this hotel is clean, simple and nice, but you hear your neighbor passing your door. It you compare price and quality I think this hotel is very nice. We went as a group and a "all inclusive". The breakfast satisfies my needs - not exclusive, but do have a nice selections of what you need for an everyday breakfast. On the other hand, I am sorry to tell that lunch and dinner would be better in one of the street kitchens in town. The staff is nice, the rooms are clean and the hotel is near city and beach. I did not use the swimmingpool - but it looked as a mirror from the passed. Not the best hotel I have staid in, but overall it was a place that satisfied my needs for a short brake in the nice small town Calalla.

Just returned from hotel with my friend, We had a nice room and fab view, however the cleaner of our room did not clean neither did the beds get changed. We put the dirty towels on the floor and the cleaner came in and folded them and put back. Disgusting we only got towels changed once. The toilet under the rim was disgusting, obviously never cleaned properly. We did inform reception several times, whom advised the house keeper. Food not to my liking, strange concoctions like fish in with chicken, Breakfast better choices. The restaurant needs to have cheese and biscuits available and more fruits. The staff in the restaurant and the bar make the place, they are lovely and very friendly. With regards to the beer machine by the pool, regularily fails to work and the bar staff then will not serve you beer from behind the bar, this is ridiculous, I had to get my band changed 3 times. I question was the beer in the machine the same? Or a cheaper brand. The bar staff state its a management ruling, The hotel needs to address certain things like Cleaners, better more variety of foods for all diets and address the bar system. If things are tweeked then the hotel will be more desirable.
