More about the hotel
Avoid like the plague covid-19 or not
Appalling hotel. After long tiring journey from NE England in rain, when initially seeing this hotel from the outside, it appeared reasonably smart although rubbish was lying in the car park. Having taken our money and then been given the key, we found an extremely small bedroom with a ridiculously small and smelly shower. Asked for another room but receptionist said nothing else available and she poured water into the shower tray to attempt to seal the water trap. As the restaurant was understandably shut due to the covid-19 pandemic, she provided a couple of pizzas but not of our preferred choice whilst the breakfast next morning, on timing and quantity, was a disaster. The bedding was not unclean but the room was filthy - presumably closed at outbreak of covid 19 pandemic then later reopened but with zero cleaning. Dust and dirt almost everywhere. Fortunately we travelled with cleaning wipes and used about 10 just wiping down the room. The man on duty in morning was pleasant and apologetic but the poor management deserves that this hotel should cease trading.
Paper walls and Brick beds.
Have stayed in many budget hotels but found the rooms here really the smallest, the shower was exceptionally small. Generally clean but very tired. The walls were paper thin could hear the conversation clearly next door, they were not shouting. We found the beds hard I suffer from a bad back so if you do and cannot take hard beds be warned. I got no sleep! Some Pillows shabby and worn could do with replacing. Even my husband found the bed a problem in this hotel he usually never complains. The radiator heating was good it was an extremely cold night. But early in the evening the bathroom water was not really warm but was better much later. On arriving the receptionist was very friendly and I asked for an extra pillow which arrived within minutes. Breakfast did not bear any resemblance to pictures shown on some sites... In fact at first I was saw very little but having said that the lady in charge again very friendly quickly brought some stuff out and replenished. Cheese, ham and butter kept in a small fridge and the bread and cakes were very fresh. A Basic french hotel breakfast. Finding the hotel....well the Sat Nav likes to take the long way around and it is confusing at first. A case of remembering as you go around the back it is to the left of Courtpaille restaurant hidden between buildings or one ends up back on main road which is a dual carriageway. We would not stay here again.
Avoid this place
Where to start...Firstly, do not trust the photos used by the hotel as they are very misleading as to the actual standard and appearance of the hotel and rooms. The hotel itself is in the industrial area of Chartres, and a level lower than the main road. At check-in we were met by a sign that informed us the hotel had no hot water - this did not change for the duration of our stay. We had two ground floor rooms that faced directly onto the car park. The rooms themselves were both grubby (dead flies, dirt in the corner of the room and under the bed), and incredibly small - the sort of rooms where you can touch all four walls at once and have to leave the room to turn around. If the rooms seemed small, the shower (cold) was minuscule and falling apart. The only ventilation the rooms have is a window, but the windows are either fully open or closed, there is no means to secure the window in a half open position. This is less than ideal when facing onto a car park, and we therefore enjoyed a stifling night. Breakfast was epitomised by a lack of seating for the number of guests, and a general absence of anything 'fresh' i.e. coffee or eggs. A special mention must also go to the member of staff who clearly did not care that there was no hot water, but still found it acceptable to charge full price for the rooms, and used words to the effect of 'a cold shower in the morning is very refreshing'... I have never been so glad to check out of a hotel.
Good for an overnight stay
Rooms are small but clean and have a kettle which is useful. Easily accessible from the main road this hotel is good if you're on a budget and the evening meals are excellant. Beware though, the restaurant is not open at the weekend.
If you just want an overnight stay this is the place.
We were travelling from Dunkirk off the ferry to the Dordogne so this was an ideal stopover, unfortunately, like an earlier review, our satnav also sent us the scenic route, so we were late arriving however the room was ready, just very basic but for the money we paid we expected little else. It was clean and just for one night so acceptable. The young man on reception was friendly but when we had a drink there after settling in we felt it was very overpriced for the standard of the hotel. Advice.....go elsewhere.
