Adjust expectations in the post-COVID era

As I've been traveling more in the "post" Covid era and in the middle of the "Great Resignation". I've noticed the hospitality industry just doesn't have staff that care any more (and in some cases the owner/operators). Pre-Covid I may have given this place 2 stars....problems were evident everywhere: 1) Door to the room had to be pulled shut everytime because it wasn't aligned properly and required a hard pull or a hard push to get in or out of the room. 2) Silverware and dishes dirty in the room and for the breakfast area 3) Breakfast was pathetic-I've noticed this about the Hilton branded hotels with free breakfast. I miss the old days when marriott would have scrambled eggs, sausage, hot oatmeal, waffles, etc...now that I travel Hilton, I'm met with thawed frozen sandwiches, stale bagels and muffins, no fresh fruit outside of unripe bananas, and more disappointment. 4) Elevators smelled awful for entire stay, plus they felt unsafe as they would jerk around a lot. In addition, the elevator certificate of operations had expired a year earlier. 5) Cleanliness of room was suspect with hairs all over the bathroom and a candy wrapper on the floor by the bed. So why three stars instead of 2? Outside of the tired nature of the hotel (walls all dinged up, doors with peeling paint, etc.). the place was sort of clean, i mean it wasn't totally disgusting and that's where my standards have lowered in this new era. Also the front desk lady was very nice and kind. Would I stay here again? Perhaps. The Marriot Residence Inn in champaign was worse, so perhaps I'll keep trying to fin a place that is better, but again, in this new era, it may just be like trying to find a unicorn, impossible.

Filthy place. Was t clean and no glasses and dishes as the cleaning crew did run dishwasher! Hotel desk employee came up to room said I’m sorry but brought glasses up that she said sorry have dust on them! Bathroom filthy. Public bathroom in lobby very dirty too. Didn’t feel clean anywhere in this hotel. Extremely disappointed.
Frequent user of hotels.

We have stayed in Home2 Suites before and found them to be appealing properties. This one was just poorly maintained. I’m not sure if they were understaffed but they’re only seem to be one worker present. She was friendly but no way that she could keep up care of the entire hotel.
Overwhelming smell of cat urine. We could not even stay the night.

Absolutely disgusting accommodations. I reserved two connecting rooms for my family. The door to one of the rooms would not open or close without an adult using force. It had remnants of tape on the outside as if it had been closed for repair but no one made any repairs. The overwhelming smell of cat urine that greeted you when you finally shoved the door open was so intense that my family and I decided to sleep in the car and drive home through the night. The receptionist tried to help but didn’t have any one available to clean anything and no extra connection rooms were available. The windows would not open to air the room out- I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t have helped because the urine was likely in the carpet or couch. In addition to that, the coffee pot did not have a pot or basket hold the grounds in either of the rooms. The tv in the non-urine room has was broken and never repaired so it couldn’t use it. There were screws sticking up from the top of the dresser and the sink in the kitchen was disgusting. I was very frustrated that I was charged for one room even though we were only in it for 10 minutes.
Doors broken, beds stink and breakfast was minimal

The door to our room only shut after I yanked it shut. We reported in the morning to find it’s a known problem with the top hinges. Worried on actual security of the people staying at the hotel- we didn’t realize our door was still open a bit until I checked before we went to sleep- door sounded like it shut but it fooled us. Still open a crack…beds were awful. We woke up sore, and lost sleep tossing and turning. Breakfast was days inn quality- but you spend serious cash to stay here. Just didn’t find value in this Hilton product. I reached out with my problems and the hotel manager Andrew C. responded to the initial email asking for more details- I provided them and he went RADIO SILENT.
