"I was expecting something better"

Reviewed 3 january, 2022

We're visit Koh samui for 5 days, and we booked at "First Bungalow".When we arrived and see our room we realized that the walls inside and out our room was full of mold and smelled damp. The bed was very very hard and the furniture very old.The breakfast was everyday the same expect 1 recipe. The good thing was that everyday we were changing the towels and a cleaning lady made our bed.The stuff does not khow English,so our communication was terrible, nevertheless they were smilling. What I did not like and considered unacceptable was a maid who spat down the aisles. The overall picture of the hotel was like collapsing over time. The beach infront of the hotel was very dirty, with no beds,no customer service and no Bar.We had to find something else.

I loved revisiting First Bungalow in 8/09 after spending so much time there during my hippie days in the 80's. I took my son, who was 15 at the time, to show him mom's favorite beach and playground, from her youth. The bungalow on the beach was fancy, compared to the 1983-1986 bungalows when we didn't have bathrooms, nor ac, in our cottages, but did have a hammock on the wooden porch fronting the beach, waves breaking within a few yards. Oh yes, it was the hang-out of shoe-string travelers, thank you Tony Wheeler, author of Southeast Asia on a Shoestring! I loved the owner of FB in the 80's, she always let me come into the kitchen at the restaurant on the sand to make fruit salads where I would grate fresh coconut, like she taught me, and sprinkle cashew nuts over banana & papaya; in 2009, I was told she was ill and not receiving visitors. I hope she knew how influential she was to us back in the 80's. She was "Mama" and that's what we called her. In 2009, the familiar, friendly ambiance was still there, it was nostalgic and refreshing to be on the Gulf of Siam on Samui on Chaweng. Amazing how back in the day we had to take the ferry from the mainland as there was no airport! I'll go back to Samui and First Bungalow one day, soon I hope, and look forward to drinking a Singha beer in their restaurant there on the sand.

Worth It !!

Beautiful resort on the sea shore with the pristine ocean on one side & the mountains at the back. The lay-out is expansive & the beach happens to be a private one. The sea most of the time remains calm enough in this part with the odd rough day. The ocean facing bungalows provide for quite a sight & are the most sought after rooms. The rooms are of standard size but the amenities therein might leave one a bit disappointed. It is advisable to carry a three pin adapter. The sanitary fittings seem to be from another century & definitely need an immediate upgrade. They often leak as well. The television present is an outdated one & there are no international channels on offer with reception quality being very poor. The pool is a fairly large one although not an Olympic sized one. The food is quite good & the breakfast spread sumptuous but not lavish. But one would be tempted to explore the scores of restaurants near the resort than have a meal here all the time. Worth a try if one is looking for tranquillity with a good view.

Not the best

Small room with no view. AC broke so had to move next door. Full of arrogant German and Russian tourists. Long walk down a dirty dusty road to the centre full of rubbish. The private beach however is nice with alright food being served at the beach bar.

Well located, good service, good price, wonderful view from the restaurant

It is not a luxury accommodation but the location is probably one of the best in Chawen Noi. The standard room is clean, with air conditioning. We had a room outside of the main complex but close to the restaurant, which has a nice terrace at the sea.
