Not a typical Holiday Inn Express
Reviewed 11 october, 2021
We have stayed at many Holiday Inn Express locations and this one did not seem to be on the same level. Hallway and elevator smelled heavily of marijuana. When I called the front desk to request a new comforter without a football sized stain, the lady at the front desk acted very bothered by this. She came to our room with the bedding and wreaked of marijuana. Who do you complain to if it's the actual staff doing it? The remodeled room was poorly done with stains in the shower and holes in the carpet. On the positive side, breakfast was decent and always a nice clean area in that space.
Nice area, nice room but the bathroom needed better workmanship

We stayed up here for a trip to the Detroit area to pick up a car, a buddy recommended this location as it was new and near by his home and shop in a safe area. The room was outstanding! Great bed, comfy, and very clean. The bathroom was a disappointment. I get it, it’s a hotel! But at least hire contractors who know how to caulk the room and finish the plasterwork properly. Also, this is 2020, why they used a tiny bathtub instead of just making it a walk in shower is beyond us. Other gripe was the shower rod bar was repeatedly lowering and again, hoses with caulking and looked like a massive hack job. Otherwise great hotel, would stay again.
Clean Rooms and Quiet but Needs a Little Attention

1. I appreciated the overall cleanliness, and the place was quiet. The toilets seemed to have a "medical grade" flush, and this was appreciated. I also appreciated a bathroom fan. 2. Ruth (clerk originally from the UK) was OUTSTANDING. I hope they keep her on. I've seldom met a person so helpful and friendly. 3. I could smell cigarette smoke in the hall and a little bit in my room one night. I didn't call the desk, because I'm not sure what they could have done. I run into this almost every time I stay in a hotel, because people are idiots. I wish there was a technology that could pinpoint these people, and I wish they could be evicted. I've had more than my share of sleepless nights due to my sensitivity to odors like this. The elevator smelled heavily of pot one time. Again, people are just selfish. 4. I was on the 3rd floor, and the shower water pressure was bad. The water was warm at best. Maybe engineering could take a look at this (I e-mailed the hotel about this). 5. I only asked my room to be made up once, and I never got new bath towels. I made do with the hand towels and asked for a bath towel the next day (because my room wasn't made up). I guess they refresh rooms only upon request, which makes sense and saves money. I have no problem with that, but one ends up having to request toilet paper and towels. 6. The grounds look a little shabby with huge weeds growing. 7. I didn't watch a lot of TV, but when I did, the DirecTV kept cutting out. This was disappointing. I e-mailed them and recommended they look at this. 8. The AC got good and cold, and I appreciate that. However, it seemed to never want to turn off unless I raised the temperature quite high. 9. I had a disconcerting issue with the door one day. I had left the room for a quick trip to my car and heard the door close behind me. I came back up to see the door ajar, and it turns out it hadn't closed fully due to an issue with the latch striker plate becoming unscrewed. Fortunately, my valuables were untouched. I called Ruth, and she had it fixed immediately. I'm now wondering how long it wasn't working properly. 10. Outdoor trash cans were overflowing. 11. The location is good with many food and shopping options within 3 minutes.
Definitely not the BEST

We stayed there last year for a week. The room we got was 105. The water pressure in the shower was non-existent. Almost Every day they were out of decaf coffee and twice out of orange juice in the breakfast bar. (theres a Walmart right next door) Almost Every day we had to find the person that cleaned our room and ask for towels or washcloths that they forgot to leave in our room. I don't think it was vacummed once in the whole week. The pool was nice but there were usually no towels stocked in the towel bins. Keycards hardly ever worked. I had to replace them twice and still not working great. The staff was friendly and nice but under supervised on their duties. I sent a letter to the corporate office and also the hotel manager. I didn't want anything but we were going to stay there again this year and I just wanted to let them know the problems that we experienced so that hopefully they could work on them. I realized that they were remodeling and I was very patient but the place is not cheap so I was disappointed. Anyway, I did not even receive an acknowledgement from either corporate or the on site people . NOT staying there again this year.
Good enough, quiet and cozy.

For my business purposes, this was a great location. Plenty of things you may need are very close by such as malls, restaurants, everything. The property could use some more attention to detail for cleaning. Outside near the side entrance it appears to be smokers ground zero, and not pleasant. Why do smokers think they are not littering, they all should be fined! Anyway, the room was cozy and had plenty oof space, but it had some sticky spots and hair in locations around the room, just not well cleaned. Also, my view out the windows was not pleasant but that is the fault of the neighbors and their trash and tires stacked up behind the buildings on M3. The breakfast was typical of a HI Express, always hot and fresh. I feel bad I have to write this because I am an avid fan of Holiday Inn especially the Express & Suites. I would not discourage anyone from staying here, but she needs better cleaning, and maybe better neighbors.
