Buscábamos un hotel que estuviera cerca de Peak District, así que este hotel a las afueras de Chesterfield, fue una opción acertada, económico y con todas las comodidades necesarias. Junto al hotel hay un pub ideal para desayunar un suculento desayuno inglés o tomar unas birras tras un duro día de caminata. Justo cuando nos íbamos cerraban durante dos semanas para hacer reformas y mejorarlo.

Dreadful buffet

We had a 'hot cobs' buffet for 50 people. The food was poor, variety non-existent, insufficient choice for our vegetarians, tea plates for a £16 buffet! Sweets at £4 per head were two pieces of tray bake cut very small. Rude staff (when they put in an appearance at all). Music was inaudible on the dance floor. Definitely not recommended.

Let down by breakfast

Hotel: - ideal out of town location for our needs, with large free carpark. - warm welcome at reception (which is to the far left of the bar). - very good sized room with double and single bed. - no traffic or other guest noise. A couple of things to note: - heating is almost too good, you could feel the warmth along the corridor and our room was like a sauna. Woke up during the night to turn radiator off and open window. - overbath shower screeches when in use - impossible to shower quietly. Pub / Restaurant - Not obvious whether you wait to be seated or just find a table. It's the latter, find a non reserved table and order at the bar with your table number. - Be prepared to wait and queue to order. Just factor this in if you're particularly hungry or thirsty. - Menu was standard pub fayre but hot, tasty and well cooked. At this point its a 4 out of 5 rating Breakfast On the basis of the decent evening meal, and the menu in our room, we booked breakfast, which you pay for in advance. Strangely when we sat down the next morning, there were no menus on the tables, so couldn't review our options or what was included. On asking for the pancakes, the response wasn't great "ohhh, I think we have some". When they arrived, they were nothing like expected. Hard and lumpy, pale with no colour, yet soggy from the defrosted berries and watery syrup. I'm sorry but they were inedible, so we sent them back. Our toast order was one slice each which seemed very stingy too. However the croissants we ordered (as a last resort to save us from rumbly tummies) were good. A partial refund was granted later on for the breakfast issues, but it did impact our overall stay.

Excellent Hotel

Four friends visiting Chesterfield to attend a funeral. We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff and the rooms were spotless, also very impressed with the size of the car park. Just one tiny hiccup, we were asked to pay for our breakfasts on the last morning even though I had payed for them upon arrival. Perhaps administrative systems need tweaking a little bit. That little problem was sorted out immediately, so all in all a very pleasant stay. Thank you.

Good base for visiting Chatsworth House and the peak district

We were looking for a base for our visits to Chatsworth House and Hardwick Hall, and decided to try here at the Olde House, and was very pleased we did. The staff were very friendly and helpful, our room was spotless and had all the necessary amenities, we enjoyed our stay so much we booked an extra night. We will certainly stay there again if we are in the area.
