Wanted to plan a friends weekend and this place had wonderful options for large groups. It was a rough start - no booking online, played phone tag for days, said they had a duplex cabin for us, called back a day later and didn’t actually have one, so we went with hotel rooms instead which wasn’t as nice for a friends weekend but they made their mistake right and gave us a discounted rate. When the weekend came, we arrived and checked in - the staff were very nice. Was told when we booked we’d all be in the same building but one room ended up being in another building, which was inconvenient but we made due. We got duplex rooms with the kitchenettes and the supplies were great. The buildings are beautiful and well kept, as are the grounds. There is a ton to do and we were never bored. We were able to all spend time in the lounge rooms of the buildings and they had grills so we could all eat together. We had one meal at the restaurant which was fine (we couldn’t separate the tab for a large group, which again was an inconvenience, but we figured it out). We enjoyed our free river run and went tubing - it was a long relaxing ride and we saw lots of wildlife. We tried out the disc golf courses as well. Warning: the paper maps they have are not accurate so we got lost on a trail and the holes were not spaced out well on the map, but again we figured it out. Overall, it was a nice weekend and even with some minor inconveniences, it was a lovely stay. I would recommend this place, but book early and plan activities ahead of time to ensure you can do them.
Great trip down the Namekagon And a beautiful property

This location could have a higher rating; but, they have to work on some things. It was difficult connecting to make a reservation; but, they have since supposedly updated their system. I think that they are trying hard to make it a pleasurable experience. I think that they may have put the cart before the horse. The property is beautiful and there are a lot of options: volleyball, disc golf, basketball, paddle board and tennis. There are a lot of hiking trails. They offer canoe and kayak trips down the Namekagon river, which I highly recommend (remember sunscreen and insect repellent). We were treated to a lot of wildlife. It was very relaxing. The restaurant is only open in the evening Th-S. They have a little shop onsite which offers a few options for breakfast but it doesn't open till 8a.m. The lodge and room that we stayed in were modern; it appears that our room had newer carpeting. The shower curtain is way too long, creating a tripping hazard and a drainage problem. They need to cut off 12" or so. Our suggestion to the resort was to work on the housekeeping and paying attention to detail such as checking under the bed, etc. The first room that we were given still had coffee in the machine with dust on top, dirty sheets on the bed, dirty chairs on the deck, etc. The second room had a lot of "garbage" under the beds. The front desk staff was very helpful and attentive. Mark, the owner, is very nice as well. They have individual rooms, cabins and houses available. It appears that they provide bicycles, snow shoes, etc. They have workout/fitness centers. There is a hot tub; however, it hasn't been opened up yet. There is not a swimming pool but you can swim in the lake. There are beautiful carvings of animals on property, including a cross overlooking the lake. They have beautiful red chairs scattered around the property for people to enjoy. We noticed a few fire pits but I don't know where the wood was located. The lodge closes at 8p.m. Keep this in mind if you are running behind in arriving.
Disc golf - Par 3 and Championship Courses on-site
Opinión escrita el 30 de Abril de 2021
We visited in mid-April to try the disc golf courses. The courses (2 - 1 championship and 1 par-3) were well groomed, and featured plenty of scenery, elevation changes, and even a stream crossing. We stopped into the lodge and met Mark and staff...all were very friendly, and invited us to make ourselves at home on the patio. The bar/grill/restaurant opens on weekends, and we look forward to visit soon for more disc golf and dinner. My adult sons and their friends are heading up this weekend for Heartwood's disc golf...go and enjoy it for yourself!
Horrible management and billing

Unprofessional and unorganized management. I booked rooms under one name and used one card to reserve the rooms. When checking inthey had requested a credit card to HOLD the room and assured us that the rooms would not be charged on card. Before we even checked out they had put charges on the card that was only used to HOLD. when checking out, i gave them the card that was originally supposed to be charge on. They reverse the charges on the card that was only for HOLD and then they charged the same card again a week later. i had to call them again a week later to ask them to reverse the fee and put it on the correct card. They gave me the go around that their manager wasn’t there or that their system could not do it. i had to call multiple times through out the week until I got a hold of the manager. it has been two weeks since our stay and I am still trying to fix the charges on my card.
DO NOT GIVE THEM A CARD TO HOLD. THEY KEEP ALL THE CREDIT CARD INFORMATION! AND WILL CHARGE IT AT ANYTIME. IM SURE ITS ILLEGAL FOR THEM TO HAVE YOUR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION STORED!
You won't be disappointed at Heartwood!

Heartwood is a warm and enriching place to gather with friends, family, or solo to unwind from our busy lives. There are lots of areas to gather in and around the resort. We loved the view of the lake from our room. Very easy access to trails for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Friendly staff is the added plus to make this a perfect vacation spot. We highly recommend Heartwood!
