Mansion Tarahumara is wonderful. Get rooms 211 or 212 if you can - these offer stunning views of the canyon behind the hotel grounds. The other rooms appear to be cottages on the side of the hill facing away from the canyon. The whole grounds are like wandering around Hogwarts, and the dining room is astounding. The service is wonderful, be prepared to stretch your familiarity with Spanish if you are a beginner, as I am. We visited out of season, so the pool and hot tub were not in service. No matter. The food in the main room is very good, and quite reasonable. There is a walking tour to a small village nearby at 3:30 each afternoon - the guide does a good job of stretching his knowledge of English, but if you're not conversant with Spanish you'll miss a fair bit (as I did, I'm an idiot when it comes to Spanish). Still, it's worth taking the tour. I offered $200 pesos for our tour (2 people), which was well received. Almost any room you stay in will involve some up and down hill walking. For rooms 211 and 212, a lot of stairs. A lot. The staff will help you with luggage, but you will be climbing and descending a lot of stairs (I'm an actuary, I counted 314 stairs, plus up hill pathways). Well worth it, but a noticeable effort to get to the stunning views. If you stay in a lower room, you can skirt the hill to still see stunning views over the canyon. This hotel is wonderful. The owner and the staff are extremely helpful. If you speak Spanish, it's seamless - I don't and it was still wonderful. Incidentally, there is a hotel next door that we heard charges $400 US for rooms, and $100 US + for dinners. Also on the cliff facing the canyon, you can see it from the paths around the edge of the canyon. No need to stay there, unless you're so inclined. That hotel is recognizable by outrageous orange colouring on the outside. Stay at Mansion Tarahumara instead, and have a wonderful experience.

We were site seeing in the Copper Canyon during the second week of November, 2019. Our guide suggested we might enjoy this hotel. We certainly did!! The lady who owns the hotel could not have been more pleasant and helpful. We were told by other departing guests to ask for Rooms 209 and 210 which were the highest rooms at 7000 ft. The hotel provided us with dinner which started with delicious carrot soup and then pork chops with a sauce that was very good. Breakfast was a buffet style as there were other groups staying at the hotel as well. The rooms were very clean. The view from our balcony was describable. It really has to be seen to be believed! In the morning we had a few minutes to look around the hotel grounds. There was a swimming pool and hot tub which we did not use. They both looked very clean. There are lots of stairs to some of the rooms so I would suggest if climbing is a problem for you I would recommend staying in the rooms on the lower levels.We were at the top and an employee and car did bring our luggage most of the way up. The employee carried our suitcases right to our room and came back to get them in the morning. I highly recommend staying at the EL CASTILLO!

We stayed in one of the rooms on the rim. The view was the most spectacular thing I have ever seen. Getting to the rooms on the rim is not easy, a number of steps up and down to the main lobby/dining area. But the hotel was extremely accommodating and helped those of us less fit to get to the rim rooms. The view of the canyons was something I am so glad I got to experience. The food was great, too, and the bartender/evening singer serenaded us well over our dinners.

No question wonderful friendly staff. Dining room food wether BLD was always good. The property is tired maintenance poor. Yes a bit of a hike to the upper rooms yes lights still out one needs a flashlight. Available from the front desk a bumpy ride up only unless one phoned the front desk on your cell assuming you have service we did not. The bed was comfortable bathroom tight and the sink by the front door is low , it looks it was after thought opps still need to install a bathroom during construction. The view makes up or the short comings.WIFI lobby only.

After stopping at Posada Barrancas just a few miles past Divisidero, we detrained from El Chepe and were met by a bus from the Hotel Mansion Tarahumara and driven a short distance to the hotel premises. There are two hotels with rooms that are literally right on the edge of Copper Canyon and have million dollar views at a fraction of the price. The most luxurious is Hotel Mirador which you can see in the photo I took from our hotel. We dropped in there for a drink and it is fantastic place with the added bonus that you can drive right up to it. While you can drive right up to the main entrance to Hotel Mansion Tarahumara where you get to see why it is called a mansion, to get to your rooms overlooking Copper Canyon you do need to walk up a bit of a distance. Usually no problem, but at this altitude, unless you are in super shape, you will be puffing by the time you arrive. The good news is that you get a phenomenal view, especially if you ask for one of the upper level rooms. Our rooms for our group were not assigned by name so we all just grabbed a key and unfortunately I picked one of only two rooms, 201 and 202, that did not have the great view. However we did have a large flat rock with a drop off of about five hundred feet from where many photos were taken. While the rooms at Hotel Mansion Tamahumara are nothing special, the food was very good and I had the best margarita I've ever had there. The bartender made it from scratch using sotol instead of tequila. Sotol is made from wild harvested agave plants grown in the state of Chihuahua and is, in effect, the regional equivalent of tequila which by definition comes from the state of Jalisco. Whatever its properties, a sotol based margarita at Hotel Mansion Tarahumara is worth every penny. For well less than $200 USD a day you can stay at one of the premium rooms at this hotel and get three meals a day included. Now that's a great deal.
