Peaceful Easy Feeling
We've been staying at the Refuge Inn since its beginning in 1973, which we try to visit at least once per year. Our children have come to love its quiet and peaceful environment as we have experienced over the years. The warm welcome and friendly staff at check-in makes our stay enjoyable right from the beginning.
Best value and attentive, responsive staff
I have stayed at The Refuge a number of times over the years. The last time was November 21, 2020. Looking back over the years there is nothing remotely negative to say about this place or the staff. It is always something to look forward to, an escape from whatever is bugging you back in the real world. This time I decided, after I was on the Eastern Shore, that my next stop after Chincoteague would be a new museum in Alexandria, Va. This museum is limiting the number of visitors at this time and you must show up with a ticket for a particular time to be admitted. This must be done on line, in advance. I won't go into all the details but I was not able to make the reservation myself before I arrived at The Refuge. I remembered they had a computer in their lobby for customers and I planned to use it. I arrived and found out for Covid reasons they had decommissioned the computer until further notice. I had no laptop/smartphone with me. Out of luck! Sharon was on duty at the front desk and said "I have my smartphone. Let's try it." There were some complications like registering me with the museum before receiving and printing the ticket. I left to put my things in the room and when I returned Sharon had worked through everything and printed my ticket and looked up and printed driving directions to the museum. A big problem solved. Then I asked about a good local restaurant and Sharon suggested AJ's and called to make sure they had space for me. I had a great dinner there served by Sharon's daughter, another lovely person. I travel and I don't get this level of service anywhere else.
Lovely Family Owned Hotel!
Enjoyed a quiet getaway to this lovely hotel just outside the Chincoteague refuge. Although our visit was during the covid pandemic, the hotel took great precautions to protect all guests including no staff allowed in your room during your stay, breakfast bags delivered to room , and TV remote in protective covering. Families will enjoy the ponies owned by the hotel, and the bike and beach chair rental shop across the parking lot. Go enjoy the peace of Chincoteague during the beautiful off season. We loved it!
Nice place with a pool
This place is like a mix between motel and resort. Not sure if you can combine those two but I kind of had that feeling. It depends on how you look at it. I liked the fact that there is a pool and I was able to swim there in the middle of the day without other people in there. We had to do some work remotely and WiFi was a must. WiFi is good, but we had some problems at first. It was working terribly at first, but then we called front desk to complain about it: front desk person just said that they have the best WiFi on the island, period. Hmm, OK but it doesn't look like it's working. However few minutes after the call WiFi started working like it was the best on the island. Not sure if they reset something, but it was a rough start with WiFi, but it ended up being pretty good later.
