Great Sunday Lunch

Reviewed 4 november, 2021

Been here a few times spread over two breaks to Chipping Campden a year apart. Can honestly say the two Sunday Lunches we’ve had here are some of the best I’ve ever eaten, everything tasty and cooked to perfection. The staff are super friendly and the building is lovely. Heading there now for lunch! Highly recommend!

Good food, staffing issues

Reviewed 14 august, 2021

Four of us stopped in for dinner and sat in the lovely outdoor area. Food was generally very good, and some members of staff were confident and polite. One young man - glasses, dark slicked hair - would do well to learn some manners and customer service skills. One of our party was missing sour cream, and when she asked for a small pot, he just looked confused, made a few impatient remarks, and walked away without helping - we had to ask someone else. Later, he ignored my partner when she asked for the bill. I repeatedly saw him stroking his hair before serving customers and handling food. Show him the door and it’ll be a perfect spot!

Lovely Bank Holiday Drink

Reviewed 1 september, 2020

After a little stroll through the village we stopped for a nice drink in the garden. We ordered at the bar and sat in the lovely garden with our dog and enjoyed a drink and a bowl of chips. Service was friendly and speedy even though it was busy. great chips and good value. Would happily stop for dinner next time.

Family lunch during day trip

Reviewed 9 july, 2020

Visited Chipping Campden on day trip. Following a warm welcome, we sat in the courtyard and was handed our menus. Our order was taken and drinks arrived quickly. Unfortunately the food took almost an hour to arrive and only then when we asked how long it would be. We were a party of 4, the others all ordered burgers which they all enjoyed. The beer and wine was excellent too. I however, ordered steak and it was not good at all. I ordered a rare ribeye but as it was very thin there was no chance it could be rare! It was quite tough and was served thrown on top of frozen chips with 3 onion rings and some watercress. As we had left home before breakfast, I was really hungry so chewed my way through it. I told the waitress that the others enjoyed theirs but that mine was not good. She said she would tell the chef! I paid the bill in full and we left, regrettably we will not return. I hope this was just a post-lockdown hiccup as the pub and town are lovely.

Lunch out with hubby

Reviewed 8 july, 2020

A day trip out to Chipping Campden and decided to support the local economy and have lunch out. Red Lion menu was limited but we understood that . What we weren’t told was that it would take 55 mins to get our lunch. There were 3 sets of people who walked in at the same time but no indication of the time that it would take. My husband asked the girl how long it would be and then 6 meals all come out within 10 mins Food was lovely when it came , portions were huge. At the end when payment was made no question of whether everything was okay. I appreciate it is unprecedented times and establishments are getting their heads around what needs to be done , but they need to make sure that they deliver the service expected else people will stop going back and then they will be in real trouble .
