Pleasant surprise
We arrived in David after spending 9 hours driving when we couldn’t get to our original destination. The staff at the hotel welcomed us warmly and immediately made us feel at ease at the end of a stressful day. The rooms were very well appointed with great toiletries, comfortable beds, and several great extra touches such as complimentary water. The front desk staff were extremely helpful when we were trying to figure out new flights. The restaurant had delicious food and the service was great. The pool area and the gym were great additions to the hotel. As an added bonus the hotel offered us airport transfer when we checked out. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting David.
A very pleasant surprise
We stayed at the Hotel Ciudad de David in early February, 2020. /We would highly recommend this hotel. David is not a fancy city but this hotel actually was. The room was spacious and comfortable and the staff were very friendly and responsive. My waitresses at both dinner and breakfast went out of their way to find me information about questions I had asked that they did not have a ready answer for. What was a most pleasant surprise was the quality of the food. I had a superb pork loin in a sweet cherry sauce. It would have been considered very good at a very upscale restaurant. The breakfast buffet was generous and good as well. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone staying in David.
Petty with a capital “P”
A petty and arrogant staff can ruin a stay! The welcome drink voucher is only for rum...I couldn’t get a Coca-Cola instead...ended up costing almost $3 for a simple can. I tried to get some creamer for my morning coffee - was told that I could have two, but not four - after some hassle, the maid quickly gave me four. They have a clever Wi-Fi system...until it doesn’t work. Elevators are slow...and when one goes out...extremely slow. Time to start looking elsewhere for a room :-(
Great hotel
Good location (close to both David bus terminal and to the city center), high-quality hotel, strong wifi, good breakfast, large tv channels selection, super-comfortable bed, great staff, very clean. Extraordinary restaurant downstairs. There is a disturbing humming-like noise (hotel ventilation, I guess) that keeps going through the night, making it challenging to fall asleep. The AC was the prime suspect, but after turning it off, the sound kept going. Somewhat like sleeping in a factory. Without this annoying sound, this hotel is fantastic.
It's gone downhill in the past few years…
When this place first opened, it was great. The service was wonderful and the food in the restaurant was the best in town. That was about eight years ago. We've been back several times since. This time, you could see that things had gone downhill. The place reeked of air freshener--not a subtle, nice scent, but overwhelming. The restaurant literally ran out of eggs one morning at breakfast. And the hotel refused to remove the breakfast surcharge our last morning when only one of the two of us had breakfast, saying that we had to have let them know in advance. Dinner at Stylo the hotel's restaurant was also disappointing. The menu was greatly reduced from a few years ago and the quality of the food just wasn't as good as it used to be. While this is probably still the best hotel in David, there's not much competition in this city and it's sad to see this once-great hotel losing its edge.
