A must stay while in Costa Rica!
Where to even start - the lodge, the staff, the food, the views, the sunsets, the tours - everything and everyone makes you feel welcome and like part of the family! Chayote Lodge has become a favorite for my husband and me across all our travels. This was our second stay at the lodge. It is the perfect way to start or end a holiday when going through San Jose since it's perhaps 45-minutes from the airport. Take a tour with the lodge, if you are lucky Jose will be your guide (our favorites were the coffee tour and the food tour where we made a local Costa Rican dish) . He is knowledgeable and funny and you will leave the excursion having a deeper understanding and appreciation for the country itself! Outside of it being the quaint, charming lodge where you have your very own chalet rooms, the people are what make this place special. You can find the owner, Rolando, always around, greeting and chatting with guests and you can see easily how much he cares for those visiting Costa Rica and wanting to welcome everyone. His brother can be found on occasion playing the piano - we were lucky to catch him Sunday morning! - in the restaurant. Chayote Lodge is the place to stay if you want to feel like part of the family! To Rolando, Mínor and Jose - thank you for helping kick off another wonderful holiday in Costa Rica!
Friendly, cozy lodge near San Jose, Costa Rica
I recently stayed at Chayote Lodge in Costa Rica. It is a charming boutique property about an hour from San Jose airport. It sits high on a hill in Naranjo and the views from every room are fantastic! There is a nice restaurant on site that the locals love to frequent. The traditional Costa Rican breakfast was the best one I had in all my time in Costa Rica! The staff is wonderful. Very friendly and helpful. The owner, Rolando, is one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. He grew up there so knows the area well and has great ideas on things you can do & experience. If you want a truly local experience, you could not be in better hands here.
Great rooms with amazing views
My wife took a staycation this weekend and visited this great Lodge where the nature and culture of coffee come together. Mainor at the restaurant was great and the food even better with a great cup of coffee or hot chocolate to go along with it. Highly recommend!
Coffee themed haven and such kind staff amidst Covid 19 Flight Chaos
This place was a delight. Small but perfectly formed. The individual chalet rooms up in coffee plantation Naranjo were so original with fittings, furniture and decoration made from coffee wood or coffee sacks. The bed was huge and comfortable with a view through the sliding balcony doors over the twinkling lights of San Jose. The restaurant served tasty, massive portions of simple, traditional meals indoors or outside. I can imagine the cosy bar being really buzzy in normal circumstances. We stayed two nights (should have been one) before catching the last commercial flight out of Costa Rica amidst global lockdowns and airlines suddenly cancelling return flights. I spent too much time on the lodge's laptop/desktop computers desperately re-organising our journey home to fully appreciate Chayote but the owner, restaurant staff and office manager, Robert, couldn't have been kinder or more helpful. Would definitely recommend staying here either at the start or end of a Costa Rica tour - and the coffee was excellent!
Amazingly stunning location
We arrived at this hotel as our first stop of a two week holiday . Amazing lodges with fantastic views of San Jose in the distance . Spotlessly clean accommodation , with a large comfy bed and a large balcony. The accommodation is on a coffee plantation which if you follow the path you can see the workers picking the beans . Coffee for breakfast was local and delicious, as was everything we ate in the restaurant. Staff were extremely friendly , amazing start to a very memorable holiday . TIP : Spectacular Sunrise worth getting up for a must . Thank you everyone at Chayote Lodge 5 * accommodation .
