lovely looking hotel right on the river
We wanted a balcony room overlooking the river but they were all booked so we had a room on the third floor. Very odd view of other houses built right upto the hotel all very old. The room is quite small but with all facilities including shower and two comfortable beds. Very tight accomodation though ok for one night. Very clean! We ate twice once for lunch and in the evening, the food was quite good. The restaurant has a balcony where you can sit overlooking the river. Nice hotel typical german and the staff were very pleasant. We would stay again.
Car parking
Stayed at this hotel recently for 2 nights. The hotel was very clean and the breakfast was very good. Only down side was the car parking, which is described as 'at a location nearby', which isn't exactly true and is actually some 700 meters away up a steep hill. Fine to drive to/from but not so good if you're older or struggle with walking.
Culinary Disaster
We were a family of four English speaking diners. We weren't staying at the hotel but as with numerous hotels in the region anyone can call in and dine . Big mistake!! Whilst I'm sure the accommodation and service is good , the waiting staff and food service on the balcony was diabolical. We were seated by a waiter and asked if we would like a drink and in our very broken german asked for a large tap water jug (sign language included) and we were given x4 bottles of sparkling water (£10). Realising that this waiter couldn't speak a single word of English was very apparent so we asked for an English menu which was provided. I asked the waiter, combined with hand and signs as to how a particular dish was prepared as my 80 year old mum needs to know. It was eventually served up and yes it was wrong. My main gripe is that if you are serving people in a restaurant and the majority of clients speak German or the English language , supported with appropriate menus, then as a waiter you should be able to communicate basic culinary terms in both languages. He then managed to knock a bottle of sparkling water over my sister!! He didn't offer to replace and when the bill came he refused to deduct the cost of the water my sister didn't drink!! The staff need basic training and remember this is a holiday destination for primarily English and German speaking nations. The food was very basic too and nothing impressed us here. Just walk by !
Great service & location
Best surprise of our trip was this little town. Hotel was great, large room with view. Staff very friendly & helpful, some with English. Town has a lot of shops, and a castle you can walk or catch a van ride to. We chose to do the Berg-Ell castle tour nearby based on Rick Steves reviews. Only critique is small shower.
Lovely, friendly hotel
We booked this hotel as it was pet friendly. We were celebrating my father’s 80th birthday (he’s been wanting to cycle along the Mosel) and this hotel could accommodate us all. From first contact email to the end of our stay, the staff were amazing. We had a mix of balcony/river view and town view rooms, every family member was happy with their accommodation, and the only complaint was the water pressure in one shower.. this was rectified immediately. We spent 5 nights in the hotel, we found the breakfast substantial with a mix of cereals, cooked food, cold meats, fresh fruit, yoghurts and juices, a variety of teas, and a pot or two of coffee on the table every morning. Staff were helpful with suggestions for cheaper parking, cycle hire, trains and buses. The whole family also made use of the sauna every afternoon, a lovely relaxing space to chill out in. The only negative was a lack of tea/coffee making facilities in the bedrooms (but is that purely a British thing?) All in all, for location, helpfulness, friendliness and quality, I’d recommend this hotel as a great place to stay. It is in a perfect position to enjoy Cochem and the surrounding area. It was easy to get to from Amsterdam ferry port and both Düsseldorf and Cologne airports via train (with change at Koblenz)
