Well what can I say this is definitely a destination pub but one that you don’t want to leave! The hosts were amazing from start to finish and love the place with all their heart. The surroundings and wildlife in the gardens are spectacular and the red squirrels were a delight to observe. Dogs very welcome too. The walk inn break was great value. Dinner and drinks were fabulous too! The hosts even arranged a visit to the Lake Distillery which was fun too especially when we drank on our return!!! See you soon

We had dinner here and the experience was amazing. We had no reservation but were accommodated with ease. The food was amazing and the service outstanding. I would recommend this place to anybody who is visiting the area. The bar staff and the waiting staff were extremely attentive and friendly.

Very Disappointing

A beautiful location and we were really looking forward to our stay based on a friend's recommendation however it looks like new owners have changed its character and quality completely. There is nowhere comfortable for residents to relax - our room only had 1 'dining chair' for a double room and all the public areas were for dining and not for relaxing. We were also disappointed by the food having been told it was very good in reality dinner was distinctly average and quite expensive. The smoked salmon was nice but the crab bonbons in our starter had no taste of crab and were undercooked inside. The truffle mash in my main did not taste of truffle and was very 'solid'. Helpings were OK now that we are not so active at nearly 70 but if I had been out walking for the day in my younger years the helpings would have been too small to satisfy my appetite. Breakfast was no better - nice choice including eggs benedict - with cheep plastic packet of jams and mass produced sliced bread for the toast. Tea was made yourself from an urn of water that was not hot enough to make a decent cup of tea. My wife's eggs benedict had no flavour and the 2 egg whites were uncooked. Have had much better at a Wetherspoons pub at half the Pheasant's menu cost. We were in a newly refurbished standard double bedroom and the bathroom was only heated by the towel rail which never got above tepid even though we put the valve on max. The staff however were very friendly and helpful.

Good food but overpriced

Went for Sunday lunch with family. The roast pork I had was fine but my wife's chicken was dry around the edges..overcooked?. Roast potatoes ...some were soggy others were too hard. We ordered desserts and usually with cheesecake you get cream but not here even with the excessive price. Chocolate mousse with a few bits of fruit & honeycomb at £7 was also OTT Whilst we all enjoyed the meal we felt that it was overpriced and the annoying flies didnt help.

Pleasant Pheasant

Good place to stop for a night. Classic double room (Derwent) was a nice room but much smaller than expected- a little dark. Bathroom was a decent size with a nice shower. Pleasant table at the inn. Menu- Pork chop in jerky sauce was delicious but fish and chips was average with “ crunchy” peas which were a cross between mushy and garden peas and quite dry, Full English breakfast was good but self service buffet was a little tight/ crowded. Breakfast finishes at 9.30 and could do with extending this ti a lilies later. Service was friendly and attentive. A good stay overall.
