So bad it’s funny (once you’ve left)

Reviewed 16 october, 2018

this place is terrible. A) really rude staff (this included a staff member entering my room at 7.45 hounding us down to have breakfast, even though we booked it for 8am. When we went down, everything was locked up and had to wait 15 minutes) b) TV didn’t work c) walls are paper thin. You can hear someone cough from down the corridor. A guest played the opera channel until 4am in the morning one night which was fun... as the staff all leave at 7pm - there is no one to report this too d) the food wasn’t edible - arguably one of the most horrible meals I’ve ever had. Weren’t allowed to have desert even though the restaurant didn’t shut for another 30 minutes. E) the beds are pretty uncomfortable F) it’s incredibly dated and hasn’t been touched in what feels like 40 years. To top it off I got eaten alive by mosquitos. I’d recommend either doing colditz in a day from Leipzig or Dresden... or sleeping in your car.

We came to Germany to visit Colditz castle so we had a 2 night stay here. Its a quirky place no staff when we arrived the key was left for us code to the doors emailed to us.Room was comfortable, very powerful shower!!We stayed on Monday Tuesday and everything was closed!!Emailed to order breakfast and it was there all nicely laid out.We made use of the beer garden to have a picnic we brought from the local Lidl had the place to ourselves!!!!🤣🤣🤣.Colditz town does not have a lot to offer in the way of restaurant s.The cafe does amazing desserts and toasties and the bar that does food was closed. You can get cold beers from Lidl and it's a lot cheaper than at home.It was a bit odd not seeing any staff but didn't bother us.

Nice food and beer but lacking in atmosphere

Reviewed 20 november, 2017

On arrival which admittedly was a bit late I think about 7.30pm the hotel was in darkness and had to rouse the staff by knocking for a while. Had asked for a downstairs room for one of our party who has mobility issues but was shown to the first floor by a non English speaking staff member and could not make her understand us. The food was good but had to be chosen by making animal impersonations to find out what it was as the menu had no English either. The local beer is very nice also very strong. we were served with two rounds then the bar closed and staff went home - we put out the lights! Breakfast was the usual continental breakfast (meat cheese bread egg yogurt tea and coffee) which I struggle with being dairy intolerant not even provide margarine even only butter. The morning staff were an improvement as spoke English well and pleasant and helpful as we would have struggled to find the car park at Colditz Castle without her helpful directions. Room was a bit basic and tired but comfortable no tea making facilities.

A comfy yet quirky place to stay

Don't be put off by the drains smell at the entrance to the hotel. This was the only criticism we had. The staff are friendly and helpful managing to communicate despite my poor German! There is free parking in the large car park, a beer garden complete with model railway and good food and drink. Several examples of regional food which we enjoyed and a good German breakfast. Room was very comfortable and warm. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Not a hotel , a hostel

Staff all go home at 7pm . We were the only two guests and left alone in the hotel . No bar no restaurant . Rooms are student accommodation , clean and functional . You have to book a breakfast time the night before. No staff speak any English so brush up on your German. Cheap as chips and you get what you pay for .
