Nice place

Let me start off by saying thankyou to the staff, I made a mistake in booking a hotel and I went to this hotel where I luckily found an available room. Staff were so helpful and nice and the room I had was great.

Good location

We had the great pleasure to return to Koln for the birthday party of a mutual friend and chose this hotel for its very convenient, central location. It is just a few minutes easy walk from the main train station, from the venue for our party and for many of the attractions of the centre of this city- the Cathedral, some museums, galleries, Roman catacombs, pleasant, river-side restaurants, etc. On arrival our welcome was warm, welcoming and friendly. The common parts were clean and well kept, with the advantage of a lift serving upper floors. There is no restaurant but the breakfast was very well presented in a spotless ground floor room with a good choice of hot and cold options. The bedroom was perhaps a little small but had an adjoining kitchen area which provided a cool spot to store the beer. En suite bathroom was again a little small but perfectly adequate. Pleasant little balcony provided river views too. Good value for such a central pitch. Would certainly stay again.

Incredible location with bookable garage parking.

Chose this hotel as it was literally just a couple of hundred metres from the cathedral. As it was December this also meant that it was almost adjacent to two huge Christmas markets, a river-side walk to a third and an energetic stroll to two more. Phew! Magnificent Rhine just around the corner. Couldn't get more central, plus the essential parking, pre-booked, in the block opposite. Splendid room, very comfy bed and excellent toilet/shower facility. This is a small, very friendly hotel with efficient staff. Perfect breakfast is offered to set you up for the first part of the day in this fascinating city.

Such a disappointment

We chose this hotel for its location to the centre of Cologne and the proximity to the Christmas market and the train station, because we were travelling from St Pancras International in London, via Brussells, on the Eurostar and Thalys trains. It took us less than 10 minutes walk from the Bahnhof to the hotel with suitcases, it is literally on the opposite side of the cathedral. This was a great start to the holiday. The lady on reception was great, she spoke perfect English and made us very welcome on our arrival. The pictures on the hotel booking websites looked amazing and it looked like you got a lot for your money. This is where we had our first disappointment. The actual hotel room we stayed in, room 308, looked better placed in a cheap budget 80s hotel. Dark, cramped, and basic. Absolutely nothing like the pictures from the booking sites. The television was broken and this got reported immediately. It took over 24 hours to repair and that was only when i said i wanted a room change. Tea or coffee making facility is not available in the rooms so if you want a hot drink, you have to get dressed and go and find a cafe open nearby. There was no bathroom window, and the extractor fan didn't extract so if you used the bathroom, the room was filled with toilet smells. Your room is made up daily which is good, but the cleaner needs a lesson on how to clean dust from corners of the room and how to clean other guest hairs that are trapped on the shower side of the sliding shower door. Attention to detail goes a long way. The double beds are in fact 2 pillowtop single matresses pushed together both with their own duvet. This is great, you get a lot better sleep as you do not feel the person next to you moving around and no one pulling the duvet from you. I did like the beds. The corridor which our room was in, had a horrible smell of stale fried food, it was very strong and there was no ventilation in the corridor as it had no windows. I asked why our room was nothing like the pictures on websites, i was told that the other rooms had been refurbished and they now get called deluxe rooms and the hotel can charge a higher rate for them. We never booked breakfast but the dining room looked fine, just a little over crowded. This hotel is literally 10 seconds walk from the first bar and the first restaurant. You are pretty much only a minute away from the Rhine, and a 5 minute stroll to the door of the cathedral. The Dom Christmas Market is a 2 minute walk, and the Heinzels Wintermarchen is round the street corner. Being so close to the centre of the city, does tend to attract a slightly higher price in the shops for drinks and snacks, but with a little bit of map searching, there are local supermarkets (Rewe and Real) where the cost of a bottle of fizzy drink is less than half the price. Local supermarkets are a good place to buy your choolate from too instead of paying the expensive prices from the nearby chocolate museum which is only a 10 minute walk along the river from the hotel.

Great hotel and great staff

Right in the heart of it all, so dont expect it to be quiet on weekend evenings, but it all settles down by 0:00. Fantastic breakfast, friendly staff, great room. Easy access to the main attractions in Cologne
