Horrible.
My friends and I came to Columbus on Labor Day weekend for a wedding. The nicest thing I can say about this hotel is the young lady who checked us in. Due to the lateness of the day, we were running behind for the rehearsal dinner. We took our things to the room and noticed quickly how dirty the initial appearance of the room was. There was blood stains on the chair next to the bed, there was a broken down dresser/tv desk stand that had marker marks all over it. The dust and dirt was unimaginable. The room had an odor. That was just the beginning of the horror. We were on limited time and agreed to go ahead unpack and head to the dinner. The following morning, my friend got up to take the first shower since arriving to the hotel. As soon as he started to get into the shower, he slipped and fell. There was a sticky/oil substance all over the shower. Highly assuming based on the condition of the cleanliness of the room, it wasn't properly cleaned after the previous guests. Nobody in my group had used the shower or had any sticky substances like that. We called down to the front desk and asked to speak to a manager right away, we were told he would call us back when he got in. We even left a cell phone number with the associate who answered the call. To no prevail, the manager never contacted us. We had to contact him once we arrived back to the hotel. His initial suggestion was "place a towel" in the actual shower while showering. The managers name was Bruce. Bruce appeared to be wanting to help in someway in the beginning. Bruce promised to refund the points I used to book for the weekend, adding up to 37,500 plus an additional 20,000 for the inconvenience. The gesture was very minimal based on the horror we experienced there. My friend ended up going to the Urgent Care and getting checked out because he was in so much pain. Bruce has failed at holding up to his small gesture. Bruce has failed and keeping his hotel safe for guests. Bruce has failed to keep his hotel up-to-par and clean. I have not received any promised points as of this review. Please think long and hard before staying here. There are other Marriott brands close by, as well as Hiltons nearby. I will also include some pictures.
Just a Bit Off
I waited a little while to write this review because the stay was not very good. Nevertheless, I did not want to judge unfairly the hotel and its staff for things outside their control. I stayed here at the end of June. Most but not all the COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, and the hotel had closed its restaurant and bar. They had a small refrigerator with breakfast bags and bottles of water at no charge for guests who wanted them. The good: the staff was very friendly in all my interactions with them. They saw that I was a Marriott Rewards member, and they gave me extra points when the stay went off the rails (I am coming to that). The staff also gave my family an area to eat when an outside restaurant had closed off its dining section. We picked up the food and ate at the hotel. The staff was very accommodating, which I appreciate. The hotel is in a nice area with tons of shopping and other restaurants. It is convenient to I-71 for quick access to either Columbus or points north. The hotel itself is in good condition. It looks fairly new and well maintained. The bad: Despite the friendliness of the staff, they seemed a bit helpless. When I arrived, I was given two bottles of water and told that my room was an upgrade. Upon arrival to my room, I looked around for a refrigerator for the water, but there was not a minifridge in my room. I asked about it at the front desk, and they said that they would move one to my room. It never happened. Here is where my stay gets bad, and I do not blame the staff for this, but I think they could have handled the situation better. On the morning of my departure, I woke up and turned on the faucet in the bathroom... no water. I tried the bathtub faucet... no water. I got dressed and went downstairs. The front desk said that water was cut to the building and probably the entire area. On my departure, I saw what appeared to be a water main break. Obviously, the staff cannot control this. I fault them, however, for offering no options. Is there another hotel or perhaps a gym not affected by the loss of water? Can they offer their guests somewhere to go to perform their morning routine? I left that morning with no shower or shave. I brushed my teeth with bottled water, and I washed my hands with melted ice from the ice machine down the hall from my room. They did give me an extra 500 points for my inconvenience. Thanks... I guess. In summary, a lot of things went wrong that the hotel could not control, and it is not fair to hold them liable for a bad stay. At the same time, they did not perform well under less than ideal circumstances. If I were to return to Columbus, I would probably look for a different property.
Customer Service is Key!
We booked a block for a high school cheer squad. When we arrived they couldn't find my reservation, they had the girls separate from adults, a few other minor things, but BRUCE was awesome. He was very patient, really listened to our concerns and our suggestions to fix things, and made it right! That night, my son went to take a shower and we found it didn't work. We saw the night clerk. After confirming it was truly broken, she was going to move us to a king on a different floor, but my son didn't want to sleep in a pull out and we didn't want to be separated from the girls we were next to. She didn't have another double but instead gave us a key to a king room that was vacant two doors down where we were able to shower. Great staff make this stay a pleasure.
5 - 3 = 2 Stars, disappointing
I give benefit of the doubt whenever possible but this is disappointing. Nobody at desk when I arrived but could hear voices in back behind desk. Knocked on desk, when in and out of automatic doors and after 10 minutes of that I walked back to doorway to find 3 people sitting no less than 10 feet away from desk. Ok, strike 1. We were there for competition and wouldn't be there much amd room fairly clean but lock on our door amd gaps around it when closed a little unsettling. Strike 2. But the kicker is we needed towels. From picks I added our room about 20 feet from laundry/linen room. When we called front desk it was 9:30am. At 10:47 I went to my car to find how close we were to towels. To prove point they weren't going to bring us any I didn't knock on linen door, took towels from workout room to take shower and when we left at 11:41am they still never brought us towels. Strike 3. 5 stars minus 3 equals 2 stars because room fairly clean.
Affordable + Comfortable + Quiet + Clean = Great Value
Highly recommend the Four Points by Sheraton in Columbus, OH. Very comfortable stay at an excellent value with only a short commute into the city itself. Check-In: Front desk was 24-hours so even though we checked in a bit late we had no problems. Parking lot is located right in front of the building - well-lit and secure. Amenities: There is a bar and restaurant right by the main entrance that serves breakfast until 11AM and re-opens in the evening. Very convenient for guest looking to stay close. Gym is outfitted well compared to most hotels that I’ve seen in this price range. Rooms: Very spacious and pristine. Everything felt very clean. Plenty of towels, lotion, shampoo, body wash, etc. Beds are super squishy with plenty of pillows. Slept like a baby. #socialmediapromo #socialmediainfluencer #hotelsandresorts #FourPoints #FourPointsBySheraton #Columbus #Ohio #ignitehospitalityservices #hotelphotography #workandtravel
