Wonderful, friendly place!
We stayed one night here because we couldn't get to chamonix on our arrival day because of snow. We phoned from the road at 8pm at night and they arranged accommodation for 6 of us and an evening meal! The meal was authentic and very tasty if a little expensive. The fondue is the children's new favourite! The owner and staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms we had were totally fabulous and a really good price. Four of us in one room and 2 teens in another. Both rooms had bathrooms. In the morning we noticed the views! From the balcony you can see mountains all around. A wonderful little place that we would definitely visit again.
Very comfortable but think twice if you're vegetarian and NO if vegan.
First I must say that the owners and hosts Stephanie and Pascal are great! If you have an issue or problem they will do their best to sort it. Our shower door was a bit wobbly on arrival and Pascal was straight in there to fix it. They are friendly and obliging. Pascal lives in the kitchen and is handyman and Stephanie everything else. You will see them in the dining room at breakfast and dinner times. My daughters and I stayed for a week on a skiing trip nearby. We drove down from England and so knew we would need transport once here. The nearest lift to get to St Gervais area is 1km away - the Princess lift. The room we had was 18 up in the rafters which was comfortable though a bit small for the 3 of us. Cosy shall we say. Tiny bathroom, but it all worked and felt like a chalet. Decent shower with plenty of hot water. Blanket and sheet on the beds. If you drive bring your own pillows anyway for any hotel. Wifi is good and comes with the room fee. When it comes to dinner, the French here don't understand a meal without meat! This is a very hard core traditional French area. Pascal was understanding and gave us options of eggs, fish or chicken instead of red meat. The cheese omelette was great as were the fillets of white fish. The chicken involved a breast with a random sauce. Most children these days seem to be quite fussy (no idea why) and mine are fussier than I would like, so they struggled a bit with the menu. One evening one of them had a dry chicken breast with a vegetable. The amount of food provided was if anything, too much. Every evening meal started with soup! A huge pot of it! I would try to finish it which got harder as the week went on. I don't like wastage. You don't generally get a choice with dinner. You eat what's on the menu basically....or not. Without being disrespectful to Pascal, I would offer 2 choices at dinner for each course. We food we had though was decent, plain, honest and fresh. The atmosphere in the dining room was friendly and for any English people reading, felt very much like a traditional B & B. There was frequent conversation between tables and we did meet some nice people. You could eat quietly by yourself also, so no pressure. Breakfast was a selection of baguette, local plain yoghurt, coffee and juice. Fine. Parking is a bit tight if there are lots of guests. We parked just off the road and slightly up from the hotel in a designated bay. Quite a busy road in high season. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the little town of Combloux up the road. We didn't walk up there as there isn't that much to see or do. Estate agents, ski shops, the odd restaurant. Not a single mini mart or grocery store in the whole area!! So on return to the hotel after skiing we would sit in our room until 7.30 and dinnertime. It would have been nice to do something else in this 'in-between' period. We drove once to St Gervais but couldn't find anywhere to park! I must say, it is not your regular skiing town. You would not know were it not for the gondola lift in a large car park on the edge of town. Not sure I would go back actually. *********************************************************************************************** To conclude then, a nice cosy hotel (potential food issues but then you are in a very French area), great hosts, not much to do in local area, no little shops for small groceries (although a huge Carrefour down in the valley 10 minutes drive away.) Think twice if you have fussy eating children.
Family friendly authentic hotel.
We stayed here and were impressed. The location was good for access to the Combloux ski area. 10 mins walk to Combloux Centre and then a free shuttle to Le Cry and the ski field access or an easy 8 min drive there and free parking. The ski area has a good range of runs with access to Megève via a shuttle bus in Megève. There’s enough here for a week’s skiing for an intermediate Skiier! But the ski school needs to be booked early. There was an interesting eco outdoor pool in Combloux which is only open in the Summer and it’s only 10 mins walk from the hotel. We hired 2 triple rooms. The beds were comfortable and warm. The hotel owners and staff are friendly and welcoming and go the extra mile to make your stay comfortable. My wife and I enjoyed the evening menu and there was an alternative ‘menu enfant’ for fussy children. Breakfast was a continental type with other options available. We always ate well every meal. Thanks for a good stay.
Comfortable hotel near Megeve
A lovely traditional hotel with restaurant. My room (10) was nice and cosy, with amenities and a double and single bed. The dining room is spacious, and is ideal for large gatherings, it has nice views across the valley. The room pricing is also very affordable, It is ideal for travellers with their own vehicles. If you come from Sallanches train station, make certain you get off a bus at the 'Granits' bus stop, and walk 60 metres or so down the hill. One can walk, to and from Combloux town, through little roads within the main road loop. Without a car, one would have to come back from Megeve by bus, or if late in the evening, a taxi.
Good value for money
The hotel is charming with a lot of atmosphere. A lot of love has been put into decorating and maintaining it. Everything is clean and cosy. The host is very helpfull and kind. Make sure to get a room with view to the valley and Mount Blanc. The constant sound of cowbells either drives you crazy or will add to the authenticity of the place. Make sure to have your dinner at the restaurant. The drain in the bathrooms has a foul smell in some of the rooms but other than that there is nothing negative to point out
