An excellent upscale all-suite hotel despite some age

Reviewed 5 october, 2022

The Embassy Suites in Concord has been among my favorite hotels. With large, two room suites, a beautiful atrium with fountain and greenery, and on-site restaurant and bar, it has everything I look for when I want to stay at an upscale property. With that said, it's largely the same as when I began staying here, and it might be time for the hotel to invest in some upgrades. My suite for this stay was 502, with a king bed plus sofa bed in the living room, along with two TV's and wet bar. The suite was basically clean and in good condition. With that said, the lamps in the suite could be replaced. One of them was corroded, and the lampshade was loose and wobbly on another. The lighting itself in the suite was dim, and higher wattage bulbs would also be a welcome change. It should also be noted that my suite was lacking USB charge ports, when a number of mid-priced Comfort and Quality Inns have had them. Wi-fi had decent but not great speeds, but at least it didn't have the tendency to disconnect mid-stay, a problem I've noted with some hotels (mostly Choice properties) I've stayed at recently. I was able to partake in both the free evening reception and the free hot breakfast in the morning. Breakfast had a very good selection (more or less back to pre-COVID levels), while you go to the evening reception mostly for the free drinks - the food selection there is limited. Their main "Rocky River Grille" dining room remains closed, but food service is still available at the bar (which I didn't try this stay.) Public spaces are attractive and still in very good condition - it's an old-school Embassy but it's been kept up better than other Embassy Suites of similar vintage. The Embassy Suites in Concord is an enjoyable, well-kept hotel that offers an upscale experience combined with the practical luxury of spacious, well-equipped suites. Some updates are needed (particularly in-room lighting and USB charge ports), but overall it's still an impressive hotel that offers the amenities and the environment that I expect from the Embassy Suites brand.

Weekend getaway

Reviewed 5 september, 2022

The hotel is a comfortable option but, like many Embassy Suites, the hotel is in desperate need of updating/renovation. The common areas show signs of wear and tear (taped up handicap door opener buttons, old elevators, inoperable revolving door at the front lobby, shortage of luggage carts, littered guest parking lot by side entrance) and could use work. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. The guest room also had signs of wear - wobbly lamp shades sitting atop rusty lamps, nightstands slightly sticky/tacky with so much varnish over the years, shower bar starting to give way and the tile where attached was cracking, decaying grout around vanity, rusty patches along baseboards, small toilets with lids that are slightly too big, no exhaust fan in bathroom, mini fridge needed to be defrosted, no sheer curtain panel in bedroom area so not able to have curtains open without others seeing in, duvet cover was sitting on top of the duvet instead of the duvet being zipped into it, etc. Despite this, the guest room furniture was modern and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was delicious and plenty of staff was on-hand to quickly clear tables as diners left. Surprisingly, there was only one staff member working the combined omelet/ waffle station so lines formed pretty fast. The first morning, the staffer worked well under pressure and kept the line moving swiftly. The next two mornings there was a much slower staffer who clearly struggled and could have used help. It seems like a lot for one person. During breakfast there were also sales people roaming the floor trying to push timeshare vacation promos on diners and it was a bit off putting. The sales people were polite, but it was annoying to be approached…like an uninvited sales call out of the blue. Given the options in the area, the Embassy has the best breakfast deal of all. However, there might be better renovated hotels elsewhere.

Unbelievable

Reviewed 3 september, 2022

Unbelievable. I am a loyal Hilton customer and always happy with this brand. I just called to ask if I can extend my reservation, the customer rep actually canceled my booking, I believe there is some miscommunication in our conversation, but when I asked if she can recover it, she actually hung up and disconnected my call! I am trying to call back and if couse I can’t find the same rep again, and I am told they can’t honor my original rate ! Can’t believe this ..

It was an okay embassy, I would not go out of my way to return but you might?

it is not great but not awful - note the use of awful. i like the interior, it is very red and that is cool. What I don't like is you pay to park when it is a huge open parking lot with a ton of space. It is not downtown where you need a garage, it is barren open land. That seemed sort of off putting. The check in was nice. Quick and attentive. You get a hanger for your parking which you have to display for their large open parking lot.... The room was the problem. The wall paper was literally hanging off the wall at the entrance and the vanity mirror was missing, just a swinging arm with the base where the mirror would sit. The breakfast was okay. it was not the best I have had. The offer all the same as usual. The omelet was poorly made by the cook. To their defense they did not go to town with the oil like the Uptown location. It does start at 6am which was wonderful so i could make it to my 7am appt in Charlotte and still enjoy. At the manager's reception - they do 2 drinks only although I did not make it, I asked. The Atrium is very pretty and the elevators are fast. There is a cool neon art in the middle of the lobby too. I did not get to explore that much too so maybe there is amore to see with the Spa and golf resort. Overall, it was okay. Mind you, I arrived at like 9pm with a preselected room via the app and then had to leave super early.

Mini vacation

This was a much needed trip and the cleanliness of the hotel was excellent and the room was spotless. I wiped down the tables and handles in the room and didn’t see any dirt. So cleanliness gets a plus plus from me.
