Drugs, parties and empty alcohol bottles
As a long time Marriott Bonvoy member, I booked this hotel upon trusting the Marriott brand for a weekend getaway to celebrate my preteen daughter's birthday. Upon walking to our room after checking in, I immediately noticed the smell of pot along with seeing several empty alcohol bottles in the parking lot area. While the updated suite was clean and provided what I expected, that was the only decent thing about this place. There were multiple young ladies entering and exiting the room directly across from ours during the course of the next several hours. It was not a normal family environment although one of the men in the room was holding a young infant. The entire area reeked of pot even with our door closed. Later in the evening a very loud party ensued well into the 4:00 am hour. The noise and banging on the walls on the other side of our unit kept us up all night. Management did nothing. In the morning when walking to my car to find a local place to get breakfast (as theirs is grab and go) I witnessed a young woman in a weird, skin colored tank bodysuit, telling a man next to her to act normal as she hid what was clearly a a needle behind her back. I feared for our safety. I immediately packed up, found another hotel on a busy Saturday for remainder of our weekend stay and told the front desk staff of the terrible, dangerous atmosphere. He apologized, said he understood and cancelled our second night. There was not a manager on staff during our checkout, but he said he would tell the manager that would be in later in the afternoon. I have e-mailed Marriott to ask for a complete refund but have not heard back. I have since disputed the one night charge on my cc. I have never had such a terrible experience and am truly disappointed in Marriott's dismissal of my concern and complaint.
Terrible Motel-style property! We moved after the first night
Terrible place to stay, very much a motel-type feel. The interior of the rooms had upgraded carpeting, furniture, and kitchen, but that didn’t help the feel of the room much. The old smell and popcorn ceilings. The pool was consistent with the motel style theme. Breakfast was a grab n go bagel and yogurt, which was fine. With dog allergies, it was unsettling to see the next door guests have a dog in their room even though the front desk swore there was never a dog in our room. How could we trust that? They also failed to upgrade us to a suite for elite status, claiming they didn’t have it even though their website said it was available. The front desk called our room at 10:30pm to let us know that they can’t upgrade us - waking up my children in the process. There were also stains on the sheets (although they appear to have been washed with stains that didn’t come out). We checked out in the morning and moved to another hotel which is much nicer for the same price.
Business Travel with Great Customer Service
I've visited this property several times and felt it was time I provided a review. The rooms are clean, quiet, and convenient. What makes the property special though is the outstanding customer service provided by Sue, Joy, and Camellia at the front desk. I'm a Marriott Ambassador member (also Hyatt Globalist; Hilton Diamond) who spends over half the year in a hotel room. The consistent attention and friendly service I receive at the Residence Inn Costa Mesa is what makes me always want to return.
Old Buildings with Poor Management
Most of rooms are in need of renovation including A/C. The free breakfast was prepared so poorly as many of items were out. I was not able to stay at the breakfast area because it was so crowded with people who were coughing. Many kids were running around and crying. I would definitely not going to visit this hotel again.
Odor
This is the second time I stayed at this hotel, the first time was about 4 months ago and I did not write a review. The rooms are very roomy. Full kitchen with every thing you need to cook a meal. There was also free buffet breakfast downstairs. The beds are very comfortable. However there was an odor in this particular room that would not leave! And since the windows do not open I kept the door open for over an hour-(it smelled as if someone attempted to clean the carpet but did not completely clean it and when they were done and just shut the door for a month) Upon waking in the morning the smell was in my mouth, and now that I’m home that smell is in my my clothing, hair and belongings. (I did not asked to be moved because I am a woman and I traveled alone this time-This room was on the second floor, I was afraid if I asked to be moved I would be put on the 1st floor, this the hotel backs up to the freeway and I see transients from time to time but never had any problems with them)
