We held my daughter's wedding in nearby Chateau Robernier and stayed in the Lou Callan once we vacated the venue. Many of the wedding guests had booked the hotel and a number of our friends remained. So we had directions, yet we missed the opening from the town square twice, to the amusement of local cafe customers. The hotel is accessed via a very narrow road and I assure you that your car does get there... I drive a two seater and I was extremely concerned. Once you access the grounds you are in for a surprise. Hidden behind a walled garden in the centre of the town lies a tranquil, beautiful and quirky hotel. Our room was set into the stone, Troglodyte with a waterfall shower further into the cave. Another friend had a three story tower - the pigeon cree. Fantastic. The grounds are huge, considering the hotel's location and the pool is great. Breakfast is simple.... very simple, cheese and tomatoes, bread coffee and juice, beautiful produce from the gardens. With a two minute walk to the town centre, if you are in the area, this hotel is worth the little extra that it costs. Finally the staff - I mean this as a compliment - what staff? The place is so tranquil, the staff are incredibly polite and are in the back ground, just in case you need them. First class. Loved it

Amazing for Vegetarians and Vegans

Opinión escrita el 19 de julio de 2022

Unlike many restaurants in France Lou Calen’s restaurant Jardin Secret has embraced the vegetable with as much enthusiasm as its tenderloins. Also had a great fish choice for those that dont eat red meat.Really appreciated as we have 1 vegan and 2 vegetarian children.

Ethical luxury in the heart of Provence

Opinión escrita el 1 de novembre de 2021

Wow - what a beautiful place. Lou Calen is simply put a gem of a hotel in a gem of a village, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. We had the pleasure of staying here a couple of nights in October. The staff were superb, the setting amazing, the food - well just out of this world, and the weather was glorious. The hotel is very new - built this year - with more to come. The interiors of the rooms are beautifully desinged, likewise the garden, and the swimming pool is lovely in a total sun trap. The Lou Calen team are as friendly, welcoming and helpful as you could possibly wish for - nothing is too much trouble and they seem to go out of there way to ensure you have a wonderful say. The hotel seems to operate with environmental issues to the fore using local produce and even going as far as supporting an eductional charity for third world children. Thanks to all at Lou Calen for a wonderful stay and good luck with the future plans.

Rural Provence at its best

Opinión escrita el 18 de agosto de 2021

We had an amazing experience at Lou Calen. The boutique hotel is brand new, set in the bucolic town of Contignac in rural Provence. The grounds of the hotel are exceptional; like staying in a beautiful hillside garden with amazing views of forests, mountains and vineyards all around you. The designers have gone to the trouble of creating a traditional, peacful experience, offering you and your companions beautiful, quiet spots all over the grounds to discover, sit, relax and take in the sights and smells. The swimming pool is an exquisite sun trap, complete with sun beds, changing facilities and a shady day bed for whoever's lucky enough to find to unoccupied. Lou Calen is created with nature front of mind so that flora and fauna can flourish between the winding paths and stone buildings, which you are encouraged to explore. They keep hens and bees on site, and also grow fresh produce which is used in the food at the 'secret garden' restaurant. The confiture fenouille / fennel jam is well worth a try at breakfast! The restaurant is set amongst olive trees and grape vines on a shady stone terrace and is one of the most peaceful places I have ever eaten. There is also a bar, 'Chez Didier', a stones throw up the hill, where you might enjoy the host - presumably Didier - playing the piano while you sip wine and try the tasty truffle pâté. For beer-lovers, there is also a great microbrewery - Le Tuf - at the bottom of the hill, with a delicious selection of brews including an especially nice saison and porter. You can enjoy your drinks on a delightful sun terrace, popular with the locals. The rooms in the main building are spacious - think exposed farmhouse beams, high ceilings, large comfortable beds and all essential tech - and accessible from a guest car park. There also some self-contained, stone gites for extra privacy. It's only a couple of minutes walk into town - don't miss the traditional Provençal market on Mondays. The team are very warm, helpful and dedicated to making your stay special. Nothing is too much trouble - a philosophy that everyone from the manager to the gardeners share. This is a place for anyone that wants to relax, enjoy nature, good food and wine and have a more familiar, personal experience with the hotel team. It's suitable for young and old alike. Very highly recommended.

Un petit paradis!

Chambre spacieuse, personnel aimable. Très bien situé à 50 m. du centre du village. Quelques détails à améliorer pour notre procaine visite: wifi, délais dans le restaurant (qui est excellent). Nous sommes curieux de voir le résultat des nouveaux aménagements. A bientôt.
