Lovely cosy, friendly stay

Reviewed 27 december, 2021

I spent 4 nights here and my stay really enhanced my time in Creel. The hotel has been beautifully furnished, with each room having its own station theme. The bed was very comfortable and, although not big, the room was perfect and cozy in the genuine sense of the word - particularly appreciated given it was cold outside at night. The shower was the best I've had so far in Mexico - strong pressure and hot - both at night and in the mornings. I liked the communal area upstairs - meant a few of us could get together and it allowed me to meet some fellow guests - which being solo was fun. The breakfast was lovely, offering both "American" and "Mexican" choices, As a veggie, they were very well able to accommodate my needs. Overall, I loved this place and would without doubt stay again if I was visiting Creel. If I have any criticism at all, it was that it can get rather noisy first thing in the morning if other guests have an early train to catch - but this didn't particularly bother me but if you're a light sleeper, it may be an issue for you.

Quirky but good

This hotel is definitely one for train buffs! There is so much train memorabilia around, and even the wash basin in our room had a trin painted on it. It is only a couple of minutes stroll from the railway station. We were offered a lift in one of their vehicles, but there was no need. We mainly chose this as it is the nearest hotel to the station. The online booking was very easy, and I sent a number of emails about the possibility of tours etc, and got a pretty instant reply (in English). We did use their services for a transfer from our hotel in Chihuahua - which went very smoothly. Breakfast was very good, but it doesn't officially start until 8am, which is rather late, particularly as it is net to the station and the trains depart before then. However, there is always coffee available - 24 hrs per day. Our room was quite small (but so was the price), but comfortable and the shower had very hot water. There was also a flar screen TV in the room. Those on the front desk however do not speak any English (but then I only know a few words in Spanish). I had an interesting conversation one day using Google Translate!

a short stroll from the El Chepe train station

very clean rooms featuring a lot of wood; great bathrooms and showers with dependable hot water (yeah, that's a thing in Mexico). Very nice breakfast included with room. The hotel has a driver who can (for a fee) take you into the Raramuri areas and down into the Barrancas del Cubre - we went to Batopilas and would highly recommend that.

An OK stay but would look elsewhere next time

There are pros and cons to this hotel. Pros: -Easy walking distance to the train station. -Conveniently located in the centre of town. -Excellent breakfast. (Please note, breakfast starts at 8. If you have an early train departure, breakfast will not be provided for you.) -Hotel seating areas encouraged guests to interact. Balconies with chairs on both levels of the hotel. -Excellent heating/cooling system in each room. -Excellent pressure in shower. Lots of hot water. Cons: -Our room was very small. -The double bed in our room ("Divisadero") was a mattress on springs. When one person moved, the other person was disturbed. (Other guests did not have the spring frame.) -No sound proofing between rooms or the hallway. -No safe in the room.

Better experience last year...

Reviewed 22 october, 2019

We stayed here a year ago and LOVED IT! This year we did not have the same experience because as we were driving to the hotel, we got an email saying that our reservation was cancelled. Once we arrived we were told there was a water leak and we had to go to another hotel. We understand that emergencies happen, but a phone call would have been much better than receiving a cancellation email with no explanation, one hour before check-in. We hope their water leak is fixed soon. It's a beautiful hotel.
