Who doesn't want to stay in a castle in Spain?
On top already of the romanticism of a night in a castle in Spain, we enjoyed the strangely soothing sound of winds whistling through the tower. Full of beautiful antique furniture, the hotel offers expected amenities and very comfortable beds. Aside from the spectacular location of a high hill overlooking the plane of Cuiriel, the highlight may have been meeting Loreta who managed not only the front desk but the excellent breakfast room. Charming and professional. Glad we were able to work in our one-night stay.
Beautiful hotel with stunning views
We stayed here for 2 nights. The castle Has amazing views from the pool deck which we enjoyed each evening. The room was pleasant and comfortable with a/c which we didn’t expect. Dinners in the restaurant were very good and the service was attentive. We used the bikes to ride around the area and were able to enjoy both vineyards and a natural park area near Peñafiel. The included breakfast was generous and tasty. It was a great experience and a great value. Parking was onsite and easy. We would definitely go back.
Here we want to come back!
Fantastic rebuild castle (out f the ruins). Although everything rather new, the feeling brings you back to centuries ago. Built on top of the hill, overlooking the small village of Curiel, it offers great views from the roof terrace with nice pool. Our room (nr 5) was tremendous, so as the public areas. Seen the booking price we where a little anxious about diner prices, but that was unnecessary. Good diner with wine and water for 50 € (2pax). On top of it all, a bottle red wine in the room, courtesy of the house. Unfortunately, on arrival day, there was a celebration going on, resulting in many cars blocking the entrance and occupying all parking spaces. We had to carry our luggage on foot steep upwards the hill.
Overnight stay
A little off the beaten track but well worth the journey. Loreta was fabulous as was Pascual. Nothing was to much trouble. We had a lovely stay. Thank you. We ate in the restaurant and the food was amazing. Definitely would recommend and stay again. Plus I got to practice my Spanish 😊
Great value for money in a unique location!
We arrived to be told we had been upgraded to a larger room, however the room was still quite small. Nevertheless, we realise we were in a castle and ultimately were not spending too much time in the room. The 'king' bed was two singles pushed together, which annoys me slightly (this isn't just unique to this accommodation though) and the fact the fridge was only on when the key card was inserted in the room was annoying in terms of chilling water etc. However, I would say those points were minimal negatives. Staff were all super friendly, and what a view from the top of the castle. The pool was small, yes, but fine to cool off in. It would have been nice to have drinks served on the rooftop - I feel a little bit of investment/innovation could make this a luxury hotel with fantastic amenities. We ate in the restaurant on our first night, and food was really good. It was ideally located to explore local town Penafiel and lots of wineries in the surrounding area. Breakfast was included which was nice; a continental style buffet. Overall, a positive stay and no complaints as such - just little niggles. But, superb value for money I would say. This has the potential to be an absolutely outstanding hotel (and therefore generate greater income), as the building/surroundings are stunning, but a little TLC required.
