Quality Inn - Rapid
Checked in here late on a weeknight for a quick stay in the area. We chose this hotel, as it was located on the south side of town, which is what we wanted for our adventure the next day. This appears to be an old holiday inn branded hotel. The gentleman who checked us in was quick and to the point. The room was comfy and the hotel was nice & quiet. Breakfast was grab and go for covid. It consisted of a granola bar, cereal bar, and a cup of applesauce. Juice & coffee were also available. This hotel has a nice balcony off of the breakfast area, that overlooks a lot of the town. Michelle checked us out in a very friendly manner. I would definitely stay here again in the future.
Good basic modern hotel
This is a good, basic modern hotel in Rapid City. It is close to restaurants and shopping, with several take-out and eat-in restaurants in about five minutes driving distance. It is also pet friendly with a refrigerator and microwave in the room.
Don’t expect quality, cleanliness ... or sleep
I traveled 300 miles for a very important flight to catch at 8am the next morning. I thought it would be convenient so I wouldn’t have to drive 4 hours to get to the airport, fly, and workable in the same day. I regret making that decision. It started off with no one at the counter for check in and I waited for about 10 minutes which I didn’t mind, I understand that employees may be busy so I was patient. There was a sign on the desk that said to call for assistance and an arrow literally pointing to a little desk bell so I figured since they had COVID signs all over that they would want you to ring the bell instead of use a public phone with no signs of it being cleaned regularly. Finally, a nice gentleman who was working nearby noticed that there was a line of people waiting to check in and grabbed the front desk agent. Instead of saying hi, I was kind of scolded for not using the phone to get assistance and that I was wrong for using the bell because he was working with the water pipes or something. I was embarrassed about it at first as there were other people behind me waiting. I let that go and gave him the benefit of the doubt. I walked down the hall to my room and it smelt terrible. I figured it was something with the water pipes the front desk agent informed me he was having an issue with so I just let that go as well. I walked into my room and it was not at all what I was expecting from the images online. The bed sheets looked dirty with a bunch of little stains, and there was sauce or something all over the window curtains. Nothing looked cleaned or sanitized as it was promoted to be on their sign at the front desk. Nothing looked wiped down or cleaned, just replaced to look presentable. (That’s why I always bring my own pillows and blankets! Lol) What really got me was that you can hear everyone in their rooms talking and yelling all the way down the hall and above you, along with foot steps that made that loud cracking sound on the ceiling, loud music, toilets flushing and showers running. You could hear all of this over the tv and the air conditioning both on. I’m not usually bothered by this as it’s never going to be 100% silent in a hotel, but to say this as nice as possible, it was obnoxious. I couldn’t imagine what a weekend would be like! I wasn’t sure what quiet hours were here, but maybe management should incorporate quiet hours since the walls are very thin. I’ve never stayed at a Quality Inn or any of the comfort choice hotels where it was so loud or did not resemble their online image. As a manager in the hospitality industry, I know times are hard right now and certain things are pushed aside and overlooked. But, if the customer service from the very beginning was a more positive and welcoming experience, I would have been more lenient as the stay continued. I’m disappointed as I was hoping for a nice night to re-coop before a long day of traveling.
Nothing special, just o.k.
We recently stayed here while on our trip to the Black Hills / Mt. Rushmore area. The hotel is clean, which is the main thing, but they offer no shuttle service to the airport and made no concessions for the absence of a continental breakfast due to Covid. They gave you convenience store donuts and packed lunch applesauce. I would have rather they lower the room rate per night instead of a cheap imitation. I realize Covid changes a lot of amenities, we simply felt they could have tried a little harder to make amends for not offering breakfast. It cost us $35 plus tip each way to get transportation to and from the airport, so add another $80-$100 to your stay if you're flying. It is a good location, walking distance to several restaurants, but it is a noisy hotel with pets and transient workers starting very early and doors slamming at 5 a.m. It wasn't a bad hotel but it was nothing special either......just o.k.
Great price for traveling through the area
We had a good stay here during COVID. We had a very clean room and it had a fridge and microwave as well. We did not use any of the amenities during our stay. We had comfortable beds and a good night's sleep.
