Lovely on the beach hotel
Stayed at this hotel with my Husband and our nearly 3 year old son and it was lovely. We had a very spacious room, with small kitchen area with a microwave, sink and own kettle. We had fully working air con, a tv in the room, bathroom was fine with a nice shower. Our room had an amazing view from the balcony, looking on the beach and pool area. Breakfast was absolutely fine, there was always a choice of cereals, croissants, bread, yogurts and then a hot selection mainly local dishes, but what do you expect and hot dogs and a different choice of cooked eggs. The pool was always fine when we were there and never had any problems, it was normally open around 10am after the man had cleaned it all, but you could still sit around the pool. During the weekend a lot of people would come to use the pool for the day, so it can become quite busy then, which was not an issue for us. The lunch/dinner menu does not have much choice mainly fish, chicken, chips, rice, ugali and salads, but there are plenty of places around where you can go to eat for a low price if you fancy a change of food, for example Amsterdam where they sell anything from pizza, burgers and sandwiches, curry's etc. The food however at the hotel was always delicious and there is a lovely seating area, which is sheltered looking onto the beach. The food is always cooked fresh, so sometime you may have to wait a little longer, but its the same anywhere around. I would stay here again and would recommend.
BEST AND SIMPLE BEACH HOTEL
I love the location of the hotel. It is on the edge of the ocean. You would love to have room on ocean view. The staffs are very friendly. There are different restaurant close by the hotel. Other activities not to miss includes Mbudya trip
Travel with a friend
This Hotel it is a very nice hotel but we booked a Suite Room for me and one my friend for two days in February 2019 but when we arrived at the hotel "Serene Beach Resort" they don't give us our room which I had booked for me and my friend: because because we are two men so WE COULD NOT SLEEP IN THE SAME ROOM (Suite Room) in this hotel only because we are two men ....only two friends ....... So to sleep in this hotel if You are two friends (men) or two friends (two girls) You have to book two Double Room or two single room So it is not a good hotel ..... You not book this hotel....
Rats and utter disgust
Rats at the reception, rats at the bar and seeing rats enter the kitchen. Clear excrements of rats in the bedroom. Staff and management know about this. A receptionist brushed it away by saying ‘it’s just a rat’. Extremely poor breakfast. They add water to the milk of the cereals. One day breakfast closed at 9am instead of 10am. Cereals that were there on the first day, were not there anymore on the second or third day. According to staff they ran out of supplies. Dry bread was an issue too. They have no executive suits with hot tubs, you pay for it, it is advertised, they assured me by mail I would get it, but in the end its not there. Only the cheaper rooms without a sea view have them. We tried the bath in a simple room as management wanted to provide us with a solution, but the boiler can’t produce enough hot water to fill a bath. We were told there is one executive suit with a hot tub and that we would get it for our third night, that promise was not fulfilled, we got nothing. Not a single day the swimming pool opened at 8.30am, always around 10am. I shared all grievances with management, but finally this hotel can simply not produce what it promises. The location is nice, but the standards toward customer care are extremely low. With the issues they have with rats, hygiene must be a dangerous issue. I demanded a 50% reduction on the room rate because we paid for something we didn’t get and promises were not kept. The answer of the manager was clear: “nothing we do can make up for the problems you had”, he apologised but was only willing to give a 30% cut. Clearly money is the drive, not the guest. I felt they stole from us.
Clean up
This hotel is helping street children by supporting Young Life. They clean up the beach. The hotel staff and manager are very dedicated to this good cause. Location is great at the beach and near the boatsman wil an take you to the island.
