Hitel disregards Marriott COVID-19 policy
On December 22, 2020, my wife and I checked in at the Towne Place Suites Dayton North. We specifically selected a Marriott property because of the corporation’s Covid-19 safety policy, which we thought was taken seriously by the franchisees and their employees. Everything was fine until we checked out on the morning of December 23. I needed to print one page, and when the (cheap) printer in the “business center” didn’t work, the front-desk clerk very nicely invited me to come behind the front desk to use the hotel’s computer to log in to my e-mail and print the page. As I stood about six feet from the front-desk clerk bringing up my e-mail, two young females entered the lobby through the front door, with no masks. (“No masks” means no mask at all. Not over their noses, mouths, chins, necks… Nothing.) They then came behind the front desk, and stood between me and the front-desk clerk, with who they started to chat. One of the unmasked females was within 18 inches of me. When I very clearly told the front-desk clerk to “Get then out of here” the two visitors put on masks and moved away a bit. When I pointed out the masking policy, clearly posted on the front door through which the two females had entered, the front-desk clerk, apparently realizing that she had done something wrong, began to lie. Among other things, she claimed that the two unmasked females had worn masks when they entered the lobby and while they were standing next to me. After I printed my page, my wife and I exited the hotel, and at 11:04 am EST, I called the toll-free Marriott Elite service center to report the incident. The agent took down my information (including my Bonvoy number), and told me that I would be notified of the outcome by e-mail. Having heard nothing, I called the same toll-free number, and was told that no report had been entered into the system. I told this second agent, who gave me a report number, that there needed to quickly be consequences for either the front-desk clerk or the franchisee, so that this wouldn’t happen again. To date, there has been no response from Marriott or the franchisee. I have been staying in Marriott-branded properties for over 30 years. Since 2014, I have been Gold or Platinum in the reward system. I have never before complained to the corporation or a franchisee about anything, nor have I ever asked for a refund of the room rate, Bonvoy points, or any other compensation. My only interest here is in seeing that Marriott enforces its own policy, which is the least that its customers can expect.
Filthy & Sketchy
We stayed for an extended period of time due to business. I was not around much during the day but every single time I came back to my room after work, my personal belongings had been moved. And it was pretty obvious! For example, I had brought my Xbox and plugged it into the TV and one day when I came back everything was unhooked and the cords were on the floor. I don’t feel comfortable staying here at all, I definitely think they are going through my stuff when I’m not here but since this was a business trip, I cannot cancel this room and move hotels. DO NOT STAY HERE
Won’t stay again
Family moved to the Dayton area 3 years ago. We have stayed here the past three years. This stay was disappointing. We booked the two room suite. Room 225. Walking in seemed ok. We always disinfect. We needed to dress and leave for a party. First thing we thought was strange temp outside 49 degrees. Thermostat set at 60 degrees, air conditioning. Upon returning to room to shower and get ready for bed: toilet tissue roller broken. Kept falling off: husband took down bath towel to dry-big wad of hair fell out. He thought it was a bug: extra bedroom smelled of marijuana after we turned the heat on. Could have been something else: heater blower motor in larger bedroom was so noisy we could barely sleep: trash had not been emptied under sink: stove had something burned on the grates: walls and baseboards could use a good cleaning. We stayed one nite. If we stayed any longer, would have requested another room. The rates are good but it’s not worth it. Don’t think I’ll stay here again. Very disappointing.
Broken
There is no breakfast because of covid. Toilet was broke. Shelf in tub was broke. Two thin sheets on the bed and no blanket in the room. Lady at the front desk was nice but this hotel is not worth the money.
Should have stayed somewhere else
The room felt very cramped for a two bedroom suite. The layout is awkward and tight. This hotel was our priciest one in a road trip where we stayed at 5 different hotels, and it was our least favorite. The room didn’t feel clean. It smelled of cigarette smoke, (which the manager apologized for and gave a 25% discount because of). The a/c was finicky and the remote didn’t work. I was really disappointed in was the lack of any breakfast. Their website clearly stated that complimentary breakfast was included, and absolutely nothing was offered. I understand with Covid, hotels have to adapt, but there was nothing available, not even grab and go.
