Wonderful.

This was a one night stay, which was as expected. WHEN we found it. Sadly for us and from what we gathered the SAT NAV is incorrect. Asking directions, nobody could help, phoned the hotel and given correct directions. Thirty minutes later we arrived. Charming and apologetic reception. Lovely clean room and bathroom. The menu was not terribly large, but acceptable for our needs. Breakfast usual standard, albeit it COLD as buffets normally are. Would we stay again, definitely. JUST change that SAT NAV please.

Wonderful experience made pleasant by a friendly front of house staff Theresa , couldn’t do enough to make our stay enjoyable, many thanks and would use again if I found myself in the area and needing a hotel at short notice

Thirsty and no room keys on check in.

We arrived at the hotel and we couldn’t check in because they had run out of room keys. Later on, a group of us went to the bar after enjoying a game of pool at a local pub. The sign on the bar states that the bar is open to residents until 0200. However - it is now 2330 and the bar is “closed”. We aren’t allowed to be served due to licensing rules and we aren’t allowed to bring our own drinks into the “bar area” - even though the sign at the bar states that it is open until 0200. I don’t understand because the sign says that the bar is open to residents until 0200. Even the manager stated that the sign is ambiguous.

Not somewhere I want to be sent to again.

In general, HIEx are not quite as good as Premier Inn in my experience; this hotel is very much a case in point. Yes, it is all very clean and well-maintained, but the rooms are smaller and, certainly here, under-heated. They have an a/c unit that is effective in summer, hopeless at other times. Its idea of “heating” is to blow tepid air everywhere. Credit where due, reception did promptly arrange for a stand-alone heater to be put in the room and that was a significant improvement. The big let-down though is more fundamental - the food. No evening meals available, you need to go out for that extravagance. And the free breakfasts are… well, just dreadful. Limited choice of cereal, no marmalade. The “cooked” offering is worse - steamed rubber sausages, rubber scrambled egg, wet bacon. After just two mornings I was reduced to buttered “toast” (heated bread). Not somewhere I want to be sent to again.

Should have learnt my lesson

Stayed here a couple of years ago and was less than impressed but thought I would give it another chance. Big mistake !! On arrival we were greeted by a homeless man sitting on the front entrance smoking cannabis. Apparently they have a contract for homeless people to stay here. The staff are pleasant enough, the extractor fan does not come on when you need it, but comes on and stays on all night. The heating system has a mind of its own and heats up or blows cold air when it feels like it. The shower needs re grouting due to mould. There was a broken toilet roll holder on the wall. The empty air fresheners were bleeping all night in the corridor for 24 hours and the fire alarm woke us up at 9am on Sunday. Breakfast finishes at 09.30 during the week but nobody tells you that on arrival. The bed is like sleeping on a sack of potatoes, with concrete pillows. One wall is painted navy blue, just to add to the feeling of depression and despair. The breakfast is either dry scrambled egg or what appears to be steamed bacon with raw fat on the edge and over cooked cheap sausages. The coffee machine gives you half measures of luke warm muck and the toaster provides either raw or burnt bread ! Overall we had an uncomfortable unenjoyable stay which was not worth the money and we would definitely not stay here again.
